Hi Sam, I know where you're coming from, I too wanted to buy such a beautiful ornate table for my new home still under construction but it just wasn't going to look like it matched the modern home I wanted to put it in. I also wanted to feel like it could be used as most kitchen tables in a home are used, especially for me living on a farm, for eating or repairing something on some newspaper etc...impossible to do on such a beautiful table, you would ruin it to see it scratched !!! Not to put a damper on your tastes but your home will look so much better and have more style if you continue to try to match what you already have and that's at least a stunning kitchen that you've shown us all on this forum. If you think of the style and colour of your kitchen everytime you want to buy something or decorate, it will hep ground you to keep it similar. I understand there are people who say it's nice to have countless pieces of furniture that are all different in some way, as it can look like you acquired them along your journey in life but I think that this mixture of designs and colours doesn't gel in a modrrn house very well at all, perhaps a quaint old cottage but not a modern home with a lovely kitchen like you already have!!!

That's an interesting dilemma. I would be inclined to go with the dark grey chairs because: - the chairs will be under the table surface most of the time, so it shouldn't be "too dark" when combined with the dark grey sofa; - the dark grey should tie in well with the sofa; and - the dark grey will provide a nicer contrast with the concrete table surface. Does the store you're purchasing from have a returns policy? If you explained your dilemma, they may allow you to take one of each colour home to see which colour works best in the space. Alternatively, can you go to the store which stocks the table, see what other chairs they have in the showroom and see if there are some light grey and dark grey variations that you can try in the store?

2 sofas look great when you are needed extra seating for people but i really like the armchair /wingchair idea with a sofa. As you have chosen a modern take on deco i would look at a side table that encumpases that style but as said functionality is key. No good having one sofa if you have 5 guests. It sounds so beautiful so keep moving with your ideas and remember that sometimes ideas can change with different advise but you have to love it

Are you combining a good way of sitting with a good design? If yes, arm rests are nice, when a dinner takes longer than 1 hr or so. It helps if there is a cushion available that people want to use where the back of the chair is rounded (and people prefer to sit upright). Under no circumstance should the seat slope backwards. The sitting level should be flat - no slope. The cushion can carry a lot of design and colour suitable to the environment. I love simple chairs .... and it helps not to put too many chairs around the table.... (unless you have a big family), have two chairs against the wall somewhere close. Sit on chairs before you buy them. (And a personal thing: I LOVE different chairs. Never more than a pair of 1 design) - like in the picture with the2 green armchairs and the bench. That is just great and suits different situations and guests. (To siriuskey...... I would sit on the bench)
