Two Sofas or Chairs for living room?

Hello design world!

Designing our living room (mock below), and deciding wether to use two sofas on either side or break it up with two lovely CG chairs? Just need tips for arranging a living room.

Also wondering what side tables to use for the sofa, as I want to put lamps on each of them. Suggestions would be great! Thank you.

Either double sofa or two occasional chairs will be fine... side tables in a medium brown would look lovely

Think about who will be using the space and how they will use it, functionality is king. Two sofas or one sofa with occasional chairs can both work well so go with what suits your lifestyle. I'd love to see a round side table included if you go with the occasional chair option to reflect the curves in the arms of the chair. Enjoy

Hi all Just thought I'd give an update. Even though hubby and I discussed with each other that we will wait til we move in to get a dining table. Hubby went back to the store where we bought the sofa set to buy something, then he went ahead and bought the matching dining set because he got a good deal for it. Oh well. Two years later... We ended up purchasing a 3-seater for wall opposite fireplace, a 2-seater for under the highlight window (leaves a comfortable space to enter the room) and an armchair placed diagonally opposite the couches. I've fooled the advice to pull the furniture in off the walls a little. We have just updated the fireplace with the (professional) installation of an insert wood heater and (DIY) replacement of hearth and tiles/timber mantel to conceal the brick while meeting the safety specifications of the heater (required a much wider/deeper hearth than the existing brick one so we removed and replaced with a slab of honed granite, and the minimum height for breastplate/mantel shelf posed a few design limitations). TV mounted above fireplace to allow for better furniture placement. Not quite the picture I had settled on 2 years ago, but works with the style of updates we have made elsewhere. You have a huge room, with lots of options and opportunity. So much will depend on the size of your furniture. Some furniture is made for apartments, like a lot of the stuff from Ikea, and has compact dimensions. Other furniture is made for McMansions so is generously proportioned, and sometimes oversized. Find what you like and are comfortable in before seeing how to work it in the room. If the room is only going to be for TV then make it the focus, but if you have views, and you will use the room for other things then the position of the TV is secondary. If you have a lounge with a chaise it will not fit five people comfortably. Someone will be always having to put their feet up, and guests may not want to do that. I would have a two, and a three seater, at right angles, and single lounge chairs you can bring into the space if needed. This will allow for a table in corner, which you can't have with a modular corner lounge.

Do you have those glass doors in this room? If so, I would be inclined to want to keep as much view as possible, so perhaps consider glass side tables.

If your living space is largish then you can definitely incorporate two sofas. If it is a smaller, more enclosed space then one sofa and two small armchairs or two occasional chairs are visually more 'open', appearing to take up less space. I agree that glass & metal or glass & timber occasional furniture keep the space looking larger and lighter.

2 sofas look great when you are needed extra seating for people but i really like the armchair /wingchair idea with a sofa.

As you have chosen a modern take on deco i would look at a side table that encumpases that style but as said functionality is key.

No good having one sofa if you have 5 guests.

It sounds so beautiful so keep moving with your ideas and remember that sometimes ideas can change with different advise but you have to love it

Have both. Your room is beautiful and large enough. We have 2 x two seaters, 1 x three seater and a chair. For our side tables ( not the ones with the lamps) we use Vietnamese Rain Drums which double up as stools if there are extra guests.

A couch will usually only hold 2 people so stick to 2 seater style and consider older visitors and have a chair that is easy to rise from. I shopped for a long time to find a 2 seater I could stretch out on as i like to lie and watch tv. Consider your activities and your visitors as to uses you need to fulfill.
