Can you have too much Shaker style in your kitchen? What’s your vote?
Comments (3)I happen to love shaker style, but it kind of depends on the mood/style you're going for in the rest of the house. Your floating shelves are already a bit modern/transitional, and most of what you see from the back of the island is glass upper cabinets so I think you could easily go the modern/transitional direction with the clean doors. If you're more into traditional, and are planning on going that direction with light fixtures and furniture, etc., continue with the shaker....See MoreWhat is this kitchen nook called & what can I do with it?!
Comments (45)Let's keep it nice, I don't think EthanWes is as precious as you may think and it is a forum for personal opinions after all. I also thought the comeback was unnecessarily aggressive & unwarranted. I would keep whatever you put there quite subtle and simple in colour so it doesn't draw the eye. You've got a nice retro/scandi feel from the look of it, see it as another way to carry this through?! So some ideas: - a small succulent in a low 1-2" pot, possibly including a trailing one such as Silver Falls (though don't let it get too out of hand!), will help make it look less compartmenty. Or even Ikea http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/40349079/ - a couple of neutral coloured cookbooks stacked horizontally. - a nice low serving dish in a soft grey - but make it one you will actually use, not just for aesthetics! ; D I have a similar one to this https://www.countryroad.com.au/shop/home/kitchen-and-dining/serving/60209668/Tiro-Salad-Bowl.html https://www.countryroad.com.au/shop/home/kitchen-and-dining/serving/60203911-9084/Tapas-Salad-Bowl.html and use it a lot. - or, if you like your tech, it could be a great place for a small wireless speaker. Expensive example, but something like the Bose Soundlink Mini If you're looking for more ideas, 'open shelving' should provide lots though you are constrained with the very low height of the shelves....See Morewhat’s wrong with my tomato plant? :(

Comments (11)Haha -- I had a mobile home that I use to tow my race car to meetings , but after 18 months of pointing out to the NZ authorities that they are idiots , I've officially de-registered it and re-registered it as a mobile office ! A 6 berth mobile home needs 6 certified seat belts , for example . A 6 berth caravan can be towed by a 2 seater ute though , and in fact it is 'illegal' to add more seats to a ute . A 10 seater van can be used to tow a 2 berth , or 6 berth , caravan . But a 6 berth mobile home has to have 6 certified seats and belts . You cannot even legally take 1 or 4 seats out , and put in say bunk beds and fold up seats , and only have a driver and 1 passenger ! Here's where it gets weird though -- a mobile office only needs 1 certified seatbelt for each person onboard when it is moving . So you can have 1 seat , or 1 certified seat and a 56 seater theatre , or office wheelie chairs ( as long as you don't have people in them when on the road ) . Hell , an office can have a kitchen , a shower , a toilet , a bedroom or two , basically whatever you want ! There's even things like a Mobile Home cannot be legally parked overnight ( 'freedom camping' ) in some streets or parking areas , but a mobile office can ! So to me , working remotely will now take on a whole new meaning haha -- great views , beers and food in the fridge , fuel tanks topped up , take my shower and TV and a few changes of clothes , maybe even the laptop and tablet !...See MoreBeth H. :
