Hi. The window placement and fireplace, would suggest an arrangement of an L shape of seating, ( connected or unconnected) so that one lot of seating faces the fire, the other faces the other wall (carport direction) but it remains as one , it would give you options for looking out of the windows, at the fire in winter or TV. I am struggling with plans for a new house and trying to decide where to locate the TV on the wall with the fireplace,and it is so difficult as it disrupts symmetry. I think that the offset windows will allow that space to work fine with the TV on the other wall.

Your room is so light and bright, you have a wonderful balance of colour and neutral already! But you have a lot of light colours that make the room look as though its 'floating' and you have an impressive art and objet d'art collection with red and bold colours - so I actually think a couple of small accent chairs in a dark cognac leather or vinyl would work well and anchor the scheme, especially if the chairs were an open-arm timber design (like below image) so the timber matches with your existing TV cabinetry and coffee table and the open arm design does not look so heavy. Also you have nice high ceilings so I wouldnt go for a chair that was high in the back, this would throw the symmetry of the room - keep the accent chairs about the same back height as the sofa

Hey dreamer and Kate, Great sketch 👌🏽 but unfortunately cannot make any more significant changes, we are signing the HIA contract tomorrow or we miss out on the grant money and will have to start again next year with 30,000 less. We can only put in a window where the fridge is now (for free!) and put the fridge in the pantry. The opening to the pantry is 1.4 metres so it’s not tiny at least. We need to decide by tomorrow at latest. I do think it would be quite symmetrical to have a floor to ceiling window on each side of the bench and the pantry in the cupboard doesn’t really bother me but most people I have talked to seem to think it’s strange 🤷‍♀️

I would recommend removing one of the plants from the space. Maybe move the side table onto the left hand side of the sofa against the wall (closest to the hallway). I would also recommend injecting lighter neutral colours into the space to give it a little lift from all of the other darker colours present. Regarding the single chair, does it get used by the family or is it just there because you have no where else to put it? It could it be moved into the corner on the tv side where you currently have a plant?
