Need Ideas for Entry please:)
Comments (25)You need to add something dark, for contrast and "punctuation".. I agree with the others about painting the front door black (not gray) and would also paint the planter boxes, step, and sides of the porch black. Perhaps as well the window trim and even the eaves trough although I would want to see the roof color better to decide on that. Then some brightly coloured plants in the planters and maybe a small brightly painted stool or chair or small table to the side of the door on the porch area. These things would make the font of the house "sing" and add personality so the home stands out from others around it....See MorePlant ideas for screening fence.
Comments (5)There are a few bamboos that fit the bill, including Bambusa 'Alphonse Karr' and Bambusa textilis 'Gracilis' (slender weaver). Check out this site for bamboo info http://mrbamboo.com.au Facing north the bamboo will require a lot of water, and can look dry in summer. It is beautiful though. The suggested species get to about 4m. You can prune them if you are dedicated. Otherwise hedge and front plant, or a climber if you construct some form of support....See Moreplant ideas to finish garden
Comments (2)Or a feature tree for height and interest. Catalpa maple, magnolia ‘little gem’, smoke bush, or the perfumed port wine magnolia, add mulch , water and your new garden will reward you, don’t forget to trim edges of lawn to stop grass invading the bed , will look gorgeous...See MoreReplacement plant ideas
Comments (5)Lovely ideas . as always Julie - will check out. your suggestions. We will wait a month or so to see if the liriope still appear before we put in new plants to avoid a repeat issue.. Bigreader - Here is a photo which shows the plants at the back - a red maple and birds nest ferns. Moving the ferns forward would be problematic as we need to cover them with shade cloth during the warmer months to avoid the foliage browning plus the maple is well established.. Once the maple gets a larger canopy this shoould solve that issue. To the right are pieris and a Prunus hedge. We will also remove the Liriope in the above section as they have become a thick horrible mat. The plan is to lay some pebbles on this back section as it is just a thoroughfare from the garage and plant some low growing clump type plants in the front sectiion of this strip. Would this look ok? Comments welcome....See MoreVy
