Kitchen cabinet colours

Would like to brighten my kitchen but retain brick feature wall and bench, see photo. Bench top to be Corian witch hazel, black butt wooden floor and stainless steel appliances. Suggestions for kitchen cabinets

Hi Jenny, for an easy to keep clean I would paint your brick grey - Taubmans - hampton inn or Cyberpunk is lovely and paint you cabinets to match or in white. Alternatively as suggested white wash the bricks and still do the cabinets in grey. Either way grey and white is a great combo and you will know which look you prefer.

Is there a reason for keeping the brick in the bench? Makes it difficult to brighten. Very difficult to make any additional comment without seeing more of the kitchen

If you have not already made this kitchen I would like to help, it lacks adequate storage for good pantry space. If you need a lot of fridge space I am not sure that is the best method as it takes up a lot of space. The idea of adding the bench for the kids is a good concept but the high back means the kids can't see you all the time and they will end up on your side of the bench so they can see you. Incorporating space for the kids at the end of the island bench would be more functional for both you in the kitchen and the kids would be able to see you move around and feel a part of things. Also how will they use this space kids don't just sit still they will want a bench or something they can use to draw do homework etc. Colour contract of light and dark always looks good. My kitchens are more traditional styles but I can do whatever is required and given the detail used in my kitchens my prices are competitive. P.S white bench tops are not hard to keep clean and they don't date, the nature of the stone itself is easy to clean.

I'd pick the cupboard white first. Pick what you love. Then get the wall colour tinted to match the cupboards. Nothing worse than mismatched whites. Either match them or go a contrast on the wall.

You could try the antique white USA in 1/2 or 1/4 strength against the stone to see if this tones down the 'creamy' enough without contrasting too much with the walls

It depends on the look you're trying to achieve. For a contemporary and streamline look, I would select Dulux natural white for the kitchen cabinetry. Or, if you want the kitchen to stand out, I would suggest to choose a contrasting colour with the walls. A great way is to select your material and colours would be to take your stone and wall colour sample into a paint trade centre or hardware store where you can put them against possible options. Another way, is to have the stone, natural white paint colour in your hands, put them alongside the Jarrah floor and possible options. I'm not familiar with your style, existing furniture or personality so I'm taking a stab in the dark - but because your benchtop material looks like a cool grey, I would suggest to also choose a cool grey (like Dulux Sky Painting) for your cabinetry. Have you thought about white washing the brick? I white washed my very ugly fireplace brick. It completely transformed the brick. It would really lighten up the space. You will be amazed at how different the brick will look without losing the lovely brick texture or brick feature.

Dulux Whisper White was our choice and I think it would suit your finishes too

Changing your door knobs will lift and modernise as well, I agree re painting the brick. Will you be painting the wooden trims around wall oven etc.

Hi jennydaun, I have attached a few photos. I agree with painting your brick bench. I personally like the dark blue, that would anchor your kitchen, then you could either paint the rest of your kitchen cupboards cream, or replace with shaker style as in photo. I believe this combo

would best match your witch hazel tops. Add some pretty handles to tie it all in, maybe even timber to match your timber floor! Good luck would love to see your photos of the finished project.

I have seen where they put a sheet of glass over the surface of the brick ( Spalsh back) and it looks great. Light and reflections seem to bounce of it. Where at present the bricks appear to suck the light out of the room. May be worth considering ????

Love the pic at top Belinda 2478, Jennydaun's kitchen would look so fresh and light with the grey colour of the trim with the whitewashed brick. Then could bring in navy blue or even black accents?

I agree with the suggestions for painting the bricks, however I notice your bricks have a 'raked' mortar line, if you could fill this in before painting it will give a smoother look to your walls, avoiding busy shadow lines all over it.

I love the idea of dark bottoms ( blue or grey) and light ( white /light grey) tops

Hi thank you everyone for your input, I've finalised my choices taken on some of your ideas, still leaving the option of painting the brick will post a photo when it is finished.

I would paint all the brick everywhere warm white...satin for occasional cleaning. That done I think everything else will look OK because the colours are natural. New doorknobs are always good. You could if you wanted paint all the bench and cupboards white or rich cream as well....MUCH more spacious effect. there is a product you put on first and wait and paint...Hardware will knw...something like PSo

A warm white as a stark white would be too jarring with the brick.

Also you could clad the brick bench. There cladding sheets readily available that are easy to paint.
