This may also fix the common misconception that LED lights are not rated for bathrooms. Though I don't know for certain, I think the cotton/linen shades are removable. I wasn't able to determine this by my searches. This could easily be confirmed by making an enquiry to supplier before purchase. Alternatively, a handmade one could be made removable by making shade slightly larger than frame and making ties.

Looking at your lighting plan, it isn't not enough lights, it is where they are positioned. The three lights above island should be spaced directly above island for task lighting. Your plan has them across the kitchen, the same as other three in the middle of the kitchen. If you look at the photos that have been posted with pendant lights, they are all positioned over the island bench, not spread over ceiling. Hope your choice of lighting works well.

Hi Barbara, Pendant style fittings over the entry bench of a kitchen a great because they help define the work space. Height also plays a factor. These fittings are not positioned correctly. Ideally, pendants should be placed 2/3 from the work side of the bench, but these look to be placed with the edge of the entry side. This would not provide the correct arch of light, which is why I'm guessing you've posted this. In contrast, downlights blend with a ceiling, with an aim to be lost in a flashing view. They are also placed more centrally to provide a wider arch of light. With the trending LED style, downlight may be to harsh for this application. To solve your problem here, i would stay with a pendant style, but relocate them to the correct position and height.
