Hi Cassie, what colours are the rest of your walls and furnishings also your kitchen cupboards and benchtops, it will make a big impact of your decision. Be very cautious when painting with paving or epoxy floor paints over tiles, your surface will have to be prepared extremely well or the paints wont adhere well and will soon start to lift and peel. A mild acid wash and abrasive sand to take away the glazed surface and old contaminants like grease and cleaning product residue would probably be advised. It would be a shame to go to all the trouble and inconvenience of painting to have it peeling away a few months down the track.

If I walked into a bathroom that had painted tiles and I didn't have the money to repair it, or I liked the original yellow, I'd be dark. Once you paint it, the tiles will definitely need replacing at some stage. At work I always say, will your quick fix make more work in the long run. Change the taps to chrome(stainless is too expensive) and leave it. It's a clean functioning space that will not turn anyone off.

Painting existing tiles can be a great alternative if you don't have the time, money or inclination to re-tile. It wouldn't look exactly like new tiles of course, but can make a great difference to your kitchen! It really comes down to preparation and application. You need to take the time to ensure your surfaces are prepared properly. Remember to clean and prime well, as this will ensure a better top coat finish. Another tip is to sand slightly between prime coats to keep the surface smooth. Your top with will look a million times better. How you apply the paint can make a difference too. Slapping the paint directly onto tiles with a paintbrush will obviously not look as good as if you were to use a foam roller. Spraying paint onto the surface will give you the best outcome.
