Feature Wall with TV

We have a large family room wall for our TV and long fireplace. I want to use contemporary 3D tiles like Fiore Ice White (Matt) from Wow (http://www.wowdesigneu.com/fiore/ref71013en). Each tile is 215x250.

Husband is nervous that my tile choice will be too busy when watching TV. Your feedback would be appreciated?

Are you planning to put the tiles on the wall behind the TV? If so, I'd probably agree with hubby. I think of all those old movie theatres I went to as a kid, where the screen was all you could or wanted to see. No distractions, just the big screen. If the purpose is to watch the TV, keep it simple.

Thanks, yes TV in centre of wall with fireplace below. Nothing else on the wall (ie no shelves, or pictures, or mantle etc) - so in that respect its simple. If this doesn't get you over the line, perhaps recessing the tv (like having a framed box) is the middle ground we can all agree on??

I can see you like minimal furniture and clean lines so I will remember this when I comment. You are getting a new bigger tv, which I think would help balance the wall/tv ratio which is great, would you consider a long, low entertainment unit? Regardless that your tv is mounted. Have a look at this website; www.sydneyside.net.au Also, I do like the dark rug (recently bought a dark charcoal one myself) but it looks too small for the space. The next size would have worked better. Sizing is everything with rugs.

Thanks for your replies. I don't favour any particular style, I'm afraid I can see good things in all styles, but I love the colours of Morocca and Mexico and also love Balinese. I thought that with white walls I could bring plenty of colour into furnishings etc. I really like white white, am not fond of creamy whites at all. If anyone can suggest a colour I will get a sample pot and try it. I know the floor tiles restrict colour choices but they will have to stay unfortunately. We live in the sub tropics so would like that reflected, also love indoor plants. I love sleek modern kitchens with plenty of drawers however ours is a bit boxed in to make look sleek, am considering getting an upright stove so where the oven is could become more bench space. The dining room needs to cater to 8 minimum but am looking out for a nice extension table for there.

Hi El, painting room white would instantly brighten it, if you are buying new furniture as you said, try a lighter colour sofa, Scotchgard against any spills from the kids, light coloured rugs, a floating tv unit creates a more spacious feel, and I love the built in shelves and storage for the little ones which you could use later for your precious items.

Thanks for your suggestions.. To answer above questions, the tv wall is built out from existing wall to fit the fireplace.. There are angles at both ends.. Tv cant be recessed in the wall as there are studs behind the wall to hold the tv.

hmmm.. gorgeous tiles, but would have to agree with the others, may be distracting, and they seem somewhat reflective as well. Also, may be a pain to dust.. and if your TV is in the same room as the kitchen (open plan) may find that grease settles on them over time making them even more painful to clean. Lots of other beautiful and practical options on the market though. Maybe if you post a photo of the room, may be able to provide more targeted advice. Cheers K
