age old question, two or three pendants over island?
Comments (13)Thanks for posting this dilemma - I am facing the same predicament! I have been stalking pendant lights over kitchen islands for about 18 months now and have noticed that there are a lot of interior designers, in new builds and online etc. who are using two pendant lights instead of the very common ''rule of three''. This is more so the case when the lights are quite distinctive or a feature. You don't want to close in the space or obstruct the line of sight... yet you do want to opt for functionality and balance. I have just sold (argggg!) my three medium solid black pendants and have opted for a ''lighter'' feeling material that are larger, to ensure they balance. sit above a 2.8m lenght bench. What did you decide to go with....See MoreHow to hang three small mirrors together
Comments (6)Dear Anna, the way they are sitting looks good, but on the wall place the smaller mirror lower down with the top of that mirror two timber panels up from the base of the other two. Then, the two outer ones having their top edge in line and ensure that each mirror starts on one of the lines of the timber panelling. Are the two outer mirrors the same height? Or is the right hand mirror larger? If this is the case, then place the two right-hand mirrors together on the right (again with the small one lower down) with only about 15-20cm between, then the pictured left-hand one with about 80 - 90cm gap from the others. Do you need to work with the reflection - this will determine the height of the two outer mirrors. Whatever, don't place them too high on the wall. Quite a bit of measuring is required, but very helpful to have the timber panelling. It is easy to work out placement as a general rule by cutting out pieces of newspaper the same size as the mirrors (or paintings) and stick these on the wall with blue-tac, as it is the outer shapes of articles that is most important for placement. Best of luck,...See MoreThree down lights and no ideas!
Comments (7)Hi Cassandra, That's the perfect height and depth to display an artwork. Noting your classic Cole&Son wallpaper opposite, I think you might like our treescapes, and I'm attaching an image of one recessed in a niche that a Houzzer included with their review: the lighting you have interacts with the artwork to cast shadows and create extra wow factor! Comments (12)Wow, thank you everyone! This is my first time using Houzz and I wasn't sure anyone would come back, haha. The mockups a really helpful @siriuskey. My understanding was 2.4m would be too tight to be comfortable (it would be 2.4m as I need to remove 440mm for 4 x wall thickness.. apologies I didn't write that earlier). I am worried it wouldn't give enough circulation space, and maybe feel more like long corridors? Seeing it in the mockup is making me think differently. I am also loving the extra hallway storage @Kate (who doesn't love more storage!). This is a renovation @oklouise. The existing floor plan & overlayed renovation plan are below. Please ignore the bedroom shapes in the plan. These rooms are going to be three non-master bedrooms. Ideally used as two kids bedrooms and a playroom, however this renovation is ultimately for resale in 5-10 years. We are actually tossing up between two completely different floor plans, but I'm currently just exploring if this one is feasible. Existing floor plan: New floor plan 1 (overlayed onto existing floor plan): New floor plan 1. not overlayed: Alternate floor plan (for fun): On a side note, I'd love to know what programs you all use for your mock-ups @siriuskey...See MoreSativa McGee Designs
