Comments (6)i would try to change the bed position to opposite the mirror, even though it would be tight at the end, the doors slide so it would still be easily accessible, and take advantage of the widest partof the room. I would install hanging pendant lights to allow you interesting and practical nit light,it will make the space more adult, add your personality without needing bedsides etc. If possible, make space in your robe by clever storage inserts, and put your chest of drawers in the wardrobe. The wall which is white I would put in horizontal panelling board, which is cheap enough and easy to do, construction adhesive such as liquid nails will bond it, and paint it a dark grey so when you walk in your eye is drawn into the room making it feel wider. Also in this wall wall mount your tv and place a small chair in the corner doesn't have to be an armchair,it may even be a colour dipped stool, just somewhere to sit when you put your shoes on or charge your phone, have a ase of flowers occasionally. Lately the bedhead wall, as it's reflected in the mirror, a beautiful oversized piece of art, in a square timber frame, like something on the block, bright or bold, and abstract. With your lights on at night, your Telly off the floor, and no clutter, your bed will take centre stage. Yu can dress it up according t your mood, and invest in luxury linens, they will be the one thing you take when you eventually fly the coop. And you'll thank yourself for the best thing in your space, a place to rest and recover. Do it bit by bit so it doesn't cost you too much, gather all you need at doit in a weekend. Go for it!...See MoreBedroom cupboard design
Comments (9)The rest of the room looks more period and this wardrobe is very modern...... You could take off one of the robe doors and get a dividing upright panel put in and build in some drawers and open shelving for toys etc. on the front doors you could attach a moulding similar to that on the ceiling and with the correct type of paint you could paint the wardrobe to match the wall colour. I would probably change the door hardware to black to match in with the bedroom door. You could also get some funky wallpaper and paper the back panel behind the open shelves. That way you can change the look quite easily as your son grows quite easily....See MoreNeed help designing my bedroom
Comments (4)Hi Lachie - I assume you have a built-in wardrobe on the wall where the door is? (where the photos were taken from?). I'd suggest combining some of the elements of the suggestions above, but orientate the bed so that it's facing the door when you walk in, then put your desk under the other window. You can then put the bookshelf on the other side of the desk, which might leave you enough room for a beanbag/comfy chair in the corner for reading? Otherwise, you can put the bookshelf under the floating shelf (not ideal I know). I'd leave the bookshelf upright so that it's taking up less floor space, and get yourself a beside table (preferably one with a drawer and a shelf below for extra storage). A rug would be great for pulling the space together, but you might run into some issues with your desk chair getting caught on it, so you'll need to think about that. But if you do get a rug, I'd try to match it to one of the blues in your bedspread. Maybe also think about getting a new lamp - something in pink to pick that up from the bedspread (and maybe wood instead of metal to bring some texture into the space). As jmm1837 says, some more art on the walls would be good and will help pull the colours together. I see you have a plant there already, what sort is it? Maybe put it in a small wooden or mint green pot and if you get a wide bedside table you could put it on there (which would put it in optimal light under the window). If you want something bigger which is pretty indestructible, you could try a dracaena, next to your desk would make a nice feature. You might want to think about painting the floating shelf too in white? Few other ideas: cushions for your bed; a throw rug; a vignette of glass/vessels for the floating shelf; if you have space (hard to tell) a chest at the end of your bed (as long as that doesn't mean you walk into it coming through the door) for additional storage/seating; and think about a few plants, not just one if you can. In general I'd try to bring some wood elements into the room to make it a bit more homey. Have attached a couple of quick layout possibilities for fun :). Would love to see what you end up doing!...See MoreBedroom & ensuite design help needed
Comments (26)Hi oklouise, thank you for the 3D drawing it really does make it easier to visualize the project. :-) To your question of why we are keeping the wall between the kitchen and dining......... The original plan (we got it from the council) is not true to the current kitchen design. The current kitchen is unworkable. The wall that divides it from the dining room is brick and has a tiled bench with cupboards underneath and one very narrow open shelf and room for a fridge. There is a small island bench parallel with that which has electric hotplates (that don't work properly) with minimal to no set down on either side and a rangehood that sounds like a plane taking off. I cannot open my fridge door all the way as the island has been built too close (it cannot be moved). On the other side of the island bench is a column that houses an oven on one side and a robinhood ironing board/centre which doesn't work, on the other. There is a sink under the window with minimal set down on the LHS. The wall that divides the two rooms will accommodate the new hotplates, rangehood and ovens. The new sink will replace the old one under the window and a new island, parallel with the window will give me the bench space I am missing. (I know that many like to have a sink or hotplates on the island, however I will be happy with just bench and drawers). By the way, none of the internal walls are load bearing. Hi siriuskey. I love the fireplace and it works - sad to see it go however, we will dismantle it and rebuild it outside and replace it with a closed wood heater on the wall near where the old laundry is. And your suggestion of extending the ensuite in that direction is a good one . Hi Paul Di Stefano Design, yes we have discussed the design with a couple of professional design companies, and even considered bulldozing and rebuilding however that was going to be a more expensive option, and we have gorgeous established gardens that we want to keep. I agree, we are touching almost everything and discovering more issues as we go....See Moresej103
