Should I paint this bit of fence?
As you can see from my photos, I have a grey edging (whether it be fence or barge boards or retaining wall) on 3 sides of my basketball court.
I am trying to decide whether to paint the unpainted fence but only paint it up to the paling that is directly above the little retaining wall (ie. only the bit of the fence that
"surrounds" the basketball court).
I can't find any pictures of this and so I'm not sure if it will look quite strange with some of the fence painted and some of it not.
I sort of feel like without it painted at all, it just looks unfinished. You've got the basketball court with 3 of the 4 surrounding sides painted grey, and one unpainted.
But I'm not sure if painting it will look odd, and once it's done I can't change my mind.
Does anyone have any thoughts, or even a photo of a similar thing?

Comments (38)Lovely print. I had a peacock feather print and I had a colour called glacier Grey behind. Think it was Wattyl . Again like your other walls it is a greenish grey but darker. I also had my prints on a charcoal wall..loved that too. As you said the picture ties in with the chairs and now it's not necessary to add more matching colours. I'd buy a couple of sample pots and paint large pieces of cardboard. Comments (37)Unless you have the money to update everything else to better complement the bricks, painting them will give you a much more updated look. Comments (48)If you want to make the house hotter, then painting the roof charcoal will certainly achieve that. Repointing the brickwork is the most sensible from a maintenance perspective. Once you render and paint, then you have to keep painting (and it's likely to be out of fashion sooner or later). Try to keep passive cooling in mind (i.e. light colours & permeable landscaping) with any of your renovations, and I think it always pays to try and embrace and compliment the original architecture and be unique, rather than trying to look like the latest project home. Comments (38)Looks good. Before I read through discussion, I had these thoughts. You could look at painting on the front of the wall only, not in the porch/entranceway area underneath, double strength of main colour. So you could as an option get a test pot of Dulux double Self Destruct or even triple. I would not use Monument, or similar to the roof color as it will disappear into the roof. I also think the front fence would look better painted a stronger colour from your existing but as it seems it has just been painted perhaps you could do that, when and if you liked, to cut down expense. On the Dulux website they also give you colours that look good with Self Destruct. (Picture below). Another option is look towards going bold like a strong blue or blue green. Something like in the picture. That's my feature wall, Resene Billabong. ...or a dirty purple or a blood red. It's starting to get really personal of what your tastes are. Perhaps you could Half or Quarter the main house colour in the entranceway so it still flows but gives you more light. Exciting stuff!...See More
