How can we improve the street appeal of our home?
Comments (1)I think timber paneled garage door to match your front and balcony door would look great. You could even clad the gabled portion above the balcony in timber also. Windows done in black(??) Another window or glass doors put in above garage would improve symmetry. If that's not an option, maybe some sort of false window or doors? I don't even know how that would be done exactly, but if glass has a bit of reflective tint and is also framed black, it would fool the eye. For colour schemes, I suggest browsing through facade schemes on new home websites until you find something that grabs you....See MoreHow to improve street appeal of our house
Comments (17)Hi yecats_h, I saw some people suggested cladding and I think it would be a very nice touch and would bring your house features up. Plants and a lush lawn would be a plus as well. There are a few things you can do to maintain your lawn that won't cost you any money like aerating it or tinkering with your watering and make it drought resistant so it develop deeper roots (you can view some advice here). A fresh coat of paint, a new garage door, a more modern letter box and an exposed aggregate driveway and entrance if it hasn't been redone since the 90s would probably clean it up....See MoreHow can we improve our house curb appeal.
Comments (26)My suggestion is to first look at the steel curved based roof. If it was lined and In the same colour as the shingles(as is now or painted) there would be more balance. The limestone is so eco ‘organic’ and grounds the design. I like the the shakes as would be just lining in and same colour. Marine play would be ideal. Also a more flattering photo would help....See MoreI need some advice suggestions improving the look of our house
Comments (7)The colours will be important -- do you have them picked ? What I like -- the scrollwork or whatever it is called around the top -- adds a bit of character . What I don't like -- the rest haha . Actually , it does have potential , and I quite like the railing -- simple but not too basic . I'd do a ( probably fake ) octagonal vent fitting in the middle of the roof gable . What I wouldn't do is any sort of veranda or awning -- tempting to , BUT it would look 'strange' with the fact that the gable goes left to right , whereas anything else will slope towards the 'front' . I would paint in off-white , maybe even an English Cream , even towards a mushroomy shade . And then do the rails , the scrolls , the gutters , the bargeboard , the new fake vent in a charcoal , even a greeny/charcoal mix . The railing , in particular , will stand out and add that depth . Then I'd add a couple of large , reasonably colourful pots between the 2 doors , to disguise the 'blandness' there -- maybe one that is 60-80cm wide and as tall , with a 1.5metre plant , the other say 30-40cm with several 30cm tall plants , for variety and 'interest' . The present wall colour is a bit too buttery for me , and the green was too 80's , so an update with a couple of 'features' will really boost things . Of course , you could spend $50k or $250k and do all sorts , but I am thinking closer to $1k plus paint and labour ....See MoreStyle by Gillian - Design/Renovate
