I have a double right now (one large, one small) and I use the small one to drip dry anything that doesn't go in the dishwasher. It's convenient, but even so I'm planning to switch to a single large sink in the future. I haven't found any double sinks that I really like, but I will admit I haven't seen a great solution to drip drying pots and pans. I really do use that second sink a lot (even if I towel dry my pots, which I don't usually bother to do, I still have to have a place to put them until I've finished the dishes). Most dishracks I've seen are intended for plates and utensils, which I just put in the dishwasher. If I can find a good dishrack for pots and pans, then I will be very happy with a large single basin sink I think.

keeping the original island without the french doors would be OK but wastes a lot of space with awkward walkways, especially the very narrow walkway between the stove and island or you can have a bit more space in that walkway but the island would have to be too narrow to have any stools..this arrangement moves the stove out of it's old position or keeping the stove in the original position would mean shortening the island 60cms and the walkways would be more cluttered and this arrangement doesn't allow space for a dining table (and the family room) and ignores the porch, storeroom and laundry for future kitchen expansion unless this kitchen was also temporary if you decide to consider yesterday's suggestion with the dining table a moveable bench not fixed banquette will fit better and allows for the table and chairs to be rearranged, moved into the dining area or out on the deck for big occasions but if there must be an island please advise essential items that you need in a kitchen and i'll attempt to fit them in..you said that you want a side by side fridge but what width, depth and height, what about microwave, preferred stove..cooktop and wall or under bench oven, style and size of sinks and any unusual kitchen equipment needing special storage

Sink looks fine, although the kitchen cupboards are a bit old fashioned. Take a look at the Blum website for the more modern alternatives. The Blum bins above actually have lids that slide over the bins when the drawer is closed, so creepy-crawleys are not attracted. Also, attractive gaps in the cupboards add to the design elements.

Form me the larger one is more functional allowing 2 people to stand either side and use the sink. But really 1200 could do either.
