I have an old Art Deco house with original silver door handles that I couldn't ever part with but I love brass gold so have added accents with inexpensive decor items - based, lamp base from IKEA, Kmart gold wire fruit bowl and planter pot and a few vases and other bits from H&m. (They have lots of nice gold things) it works really well and makes it more interesting and it ties in as it's still geometric and traditional looking even though the colour is different.

Nice kitchen casdyson1! I rather like the idea of black handles, esp seeing your window frames are black and the track for sliding door is black; however, I do understand your hesitation. Out of those two samples, I prefer the Brushed Brass. It's prettier and the rounded design will feel better in your hand (ergonomic). It would be helpful to know what your backsplash will be, and if you plan any additional feature lighting in kitchen. It may alter my thinking.
