Need some art/decor ideas for my dining area and lounge
Comments (14)Hi Ange, Megan from online art gallery, Bluethumb, here. I'm loving the mix of industrial and bohemian pieces you have! I believe that a statement artwork above the dining room table would look great, especially one that balances the two interior styles you have working for you. Here's one by a Bluethumb feature artist I think would perfectly fit with the different aspects of the room, as well as the warm colour palette. https://bluethumb.com.au/brewman/Artwork/summer-landscape-ron-brown The piece is called Summer Landscape by Melbourne artist, Ron Brown. I've mocked it up in situ for you, so you can really visualise it in the space. It measures 120cm by 90cm, so should fit nicely on the wall. I have some alternative ideas for you, also from our feature artists, if that one doesn't appeal: https://bluethumb.com.au/george-hall/Artwork/silent-heat-135-x-90cm-acrylic-painting-on-canvas https://bluethumb.com.au/suebannisterartist/Artwork/the-honey-comb-effect https://bluethumb.com.au/haruyomorita/Artwork/Soul-Portrait-2015-1 https://bluethumb.com.au/bradley-kickett/Artwork/bandee-lakes https://bluethumb.com.au/dinah-wakefield/Artwork/last-light-dinah-wakefield Let me know if you'd like any of these works mocked up! Some ideas for styling would be to keep the space feeling fresh with some plants, perhaps some succulents or native flowers on the dining room table. This would fit perfectly with the trees in Ron Brown's piece! Hope this helps! Megan...See MoreHelp me decorate my living room
Comments (20)Ok. So here s the deal. I got myself a beautiful floor lamp only to realize that the lamp's legs are oak in color and the tv unit in the same setting is whitewashed acacia. I also have a light planter next to the lamp that's light wood tone too. Now here are my concerns :- 1) Is it advisable to have two different wood tones (yellow and white) in the same setting ? My sofa legs , though hidden are a dark mahogany color and the tv unit is an industrial one with dark grey metal legs. So sofa, unit and lamp all have different legs. 2) I have quite some space left next to the sofa after the lamp. The current round metal side table is not fitting and I d be replacing it. Am leaning towards a light wooden side table like one in the pics. Now if I get that, should its legs match the lamp( will be next to it ) or the the unit ? Also, should the side table match the hallway table ? I am using the sofa Ottoman as a coffee table and still looking for a hallway. 3) What else can I put in that space ? A plant ? Decorative vases ? Baskets ? 4) Does my sofa look silver in the led cool white light ? Should I change the light to warm or add some warm cushions ? Thanks in advance. This is exciting and crazy at the same time....See MoreSmall living area design ideas help
Comments (6)Placing seating in this area would make it look like a waiting room so I would embrace its current function as a corridor. Get a lovely area rug that is almost as big as the space, hang some art on the walls to give them some interest and soften the french doors with a blind or curtain that can be opened or closed depending on your mood. Maybe a console table and some lamps or a bench would work well. And never underestimate the power of plants. MKG...See MoreNeed a help to decor living area
Comments (7)It is all very safe and conservative. I would look at introducing some lush indoor plants, some additional lighting and a colourful rug with lots of texture to finish it all off. Having a mixture of table lamps, wall lights and pendants mean that your living space can have so much more ambience than provided by your harsh downlights. Using different lights can give the room different moods. I would consider engaging an interior design professional to help you bring some of your own personality into the room. Less neutral serviced apartment look and more like your own home. Best of luck, Dr Retro of Dr Retro House Calls/Dr Retro Virtual Visits...See More- 8 years ago
