Heating and cooling recommendations???

We are about to add a second storey to our melbourne home, leaving us with a 4 bedroom, study, 2 living and 2.5 bath home of roughly 35 squares. Downstairs is 1950s brick and upstairs will be lightweight poly with North and west facing windows. There will be young children who need to nap in upstairs bedrooms during the day and it will be common for us to need to run heating all day during winter.
There is going to be a gas log fire in the family kitchen and we like the idea of hydronic heating, but it may be too much. Then evaporative upstairs, with a single aircon in the living downstairs to flow through downstairs living.
We would appreciate all and any advice, experience or professional knowledge.
Thanks!
