I have a dark little house, all natural timber with arctic glass in all the original windows. Whilst it makes for privacy, when the light and sunlight 'bounces' of the disparity in the glass surface, its amazing how the light from a certain angle totally changes the otherwise dark walls of the room. Try the window film, there's a design for every style and preference, the cost would be minimal if not to your liking....and that's the operative word...LIKEing! We are fortunate to have so many products today that you should not have any drama finding some sort of paint or application for the ceiling that will reflect the light downwards. A brand called RESENE manufactures "shimmer" colours.Some very interesting effects can be achieved with this product. If you likethe idea of navy walls you may wish to consider sampling the RESENE Digital Blue ()Astronaut)...that's the base colour... M40-046-279 The base colour is applied first then a transparent coat of what they call "Pearl Shimmer",.another is "Pixie Dust", both are waterbourne pearlescent glazes..=overcoats..(.not meaning shiny like varnishes). but nevertheless ideal for creating shimmering and softly sparkled finishes over colour. Alternatively, although I have not experimented with this myself (yet!)...from what I can acertain from the manufacturers...the "shimmer overcoats"...and there are several different types, I suspect may be applicable over...'ordinary-other brand' colours.....Just an idea...something I would try myself over either acrylic or enamel paint. Houzz is such an inspirational site!...from the above I've recalled that there's a clear metallic for application over timber... exciting! Looks like you're going for a monochromatic look, but for now it's all very grey (grey couch, grey rug, grey cushions, grey wallpaper) so you need stronger accents of black & white, black to give it more depth and white to brighten it up (could just be the photo, but looks a bit dark) and then add some bling with silver & mirror accents, which I see you've already done with the curtain rods and coffee table legs (love the marble top btw)... so my suggestions would be: 1. Put a large mirror framed in black (silver will wash out against the grey wallpaper) e.g. 2. Looks like a bit of $$ was spent on the curtains so no need to change, but make them stand out by adding a thin black border to the sides (or a thicker say 40-50cm black border at the base) e.g. 3. If possible get a bigger side table (as the current one is completely lost in that corner) and a higher one too (as it sits too low compared to height of arms of couch) and place a nice silver or mirror base with black shade table lamp, e.g. 4. Get a rectangular black & white (animal print my perso fav) ottoman and place it at the open end of your living area, which will frame and zone the space but still allow easy access on either sides as well as creating extra seating when entertaining, e.g. 5. Remove a couple of the current cushions (too much of same-same) and add mix & match cushions, a couple of black & white ones to pick up the ottoman and one or two white faux fur ones to add a bit of glam (even add a white faux fur throw as suggested by ASVI) again same e.g. 6. Group some objects, pots, books, candles and/or flowers/fern (for warmth) in the same colours of black, white, grey and silver and create a nice little vignette on your coffee table, e.g.

Is it your house Rebecca , or a photo you found ? If it is your place , but you are wanting to replace the window frames , I'd be inclined to ( whther you do it yourself or get a professional to do it ) strip off the white paint , and then stain it in a mid to dark brown stain -- I suspect you could do it without removing the glass . It would contrast nicely with the stonework ( interestingly , I've always known it as 'crazy paving' ) , take away some of that 70's look , and look more like an upmarket ski lodge !
