Hi Annabel! I love the attached image. As mentioned above you will need to investigate solar access in your kitchen. In saying that there are many herbs and leafy greens that can take light shade, including kale, spinach, chives, mint and parsley.
Irrigation is also an important factor in helping herbs stay healthy. In considering the above photo, when you water these jars, where will the water go? Herbs do not like water logged feet! Good luck!

I've had a couple attempts at growing herbs indoors. The attached picture is probably my favourite, I used a stepped shelving unit I picked up from Sams Warehouse - but they quickly outgrew the teacups, so I'd say the little metal pots would be better from the start. Perhaps you could do something like this! Or even start simple with a few herbs growing on the kitchen windowsill.
