Help! Which colours go with these bathroom tiles?
Comments (78)That is a hard one with those tiles. I would have to think if you did a white, it would kind of work with the colour of your tiles. At the end of the day, they do need to be replaces, but as you said, due to budgeting reasons, you cannot, I can pass on this photo of a nice bathroom with those tiles for you though for inspiration... : )...See MorePOLL: Would you go black?
Comments (32)I love using dark colours in the right places and in truth, there really isn't a colour that is true black - that would be a none colour and one that can only be truly matched and equalled by its exact equal and opposite (white) for balance and a striking visual effect - like in this kitchen where plenty of natural light streamed in. When I design my colour palettes using "black" there is always an undertone of another colour to contrast or blend (like in the picture you featured here of the formal room at Rothesay). At Rothesay I used a prominent magenta and blue base amongst 8 other pigments which is why it appears to have a rich depth and acts to highlight the ornate ceiling that we painted in Aalto Gallery white. The trims give it contrast but the complexity of colour reflects and absorbs the red accents in the room. In Feng Shui "black" represents water and can be used in the South area of your home (on this side of the hemisphere) - this can be a particularly soothing effect. I used a near black with a brown/aubergine undertone in this bedroom that was once the place of non sleep and now definitely the opposite is in effect. I love using a base colour in my blacks to punctuate bright colours and jewel like tones - it feeds the soul! After all no adventure can be had by playing it safe - right?...See MorePOLL: What home design trend are you happy to see the back of?
Comments (55)Some great comments and thoughts from you all. Trends are a consumer marketing tool to encourage you to continually spend and buy their products... A home should be a living curation of things you love that work for you and nobody else. Yes there are some design principles you can follow but these are a guide and should be considered along with the space, it's purpose, the light, the people and much more. Instead of buying more, consider what you have and carefully select things to complement them - update by changing things around and making sure YOU love the style and it suits the way YOU live!...See MoreIs it better to use the same hardware colour throughout the house?
Comments (6)I wouldn't be as harsh as Dr Retro , but I'm not a Pro . In fact , I like gold , I like black chrome , I like silver chrome , I like Victorian white tapware , Dr Retro seems to have focused on matt black , but surely thats limiting yourself ? Personally , I'd just go room by room . If your kitchen was dark marble and gloss charcoal cupboard doors etc , then I'd look at gold/brass , or gloss black , or chrome in whatever style complements ( modern in a modern house or modernised house ; 70's in a 70's house ; classic gold or chrome in a Victorian farmhouse ) . If it was ( shiver , shiver ) white benches and cupboard doors and appliances and walls and ceiling , then again black or gold would look great IMO , chrome not so much , but anyone who does white on white on white lacks something anyway haha . So a kitchen , or dining room , or bedroom , or wherever , that is mainly white , or very colourful , or mainly pink , or black and white , may suit some styles , not others . To go one step further , and have black taps and gold handles mixed in one room would depend on the style of the house and/or each room IMO -- gut instinct is no , but I can think of some combo's that may work -- a Victorian house with solid wooden varnished doors , gold/brass handles , a kitchen with a wooden floor , white marble bench-top and black gloss plumbing would look balanced , for example ....See MoreUser
