Comments (33)Don't waste your money rendering the bricks - that look will go out of fashion. Don't replace your tiles with a colourbond roof either as that would be giving you an inferior roof and colourbond roofs are noisy. Replace your front door and try and choose wrought iron bannister railing. Then start off fresh with your front garden; soften it with magnolia shrubs, white agapanthus and trailing plants such as erigon to trail over brickwork in the driveway. Your bricks show a lot of character; please don't render them....See MoreExterior renovation advice. To render or not to render?
Comments (14)The Bricks are OK, if you like them, keep that round feature deck in the brick and render the rest, or stone clad the feature and render the rest, or cheapest of all just paint the rest in a dark warm neutral and render the round feature in a lighter but similar tone. You have the windows to consider. If you changed the colour of them you could also change the overall colour scheme from warm to cool. Although a black and white scheme is current, it looks better on timber houses and in suburban and inner city areas in my opinion. There are lots of different elements to your house which would look more integrated if you chose a warm colour scheme with a maximum of 3 colours. You can even make the bricks work if you paint upstairs a warmer colour to match them and changed the tiles and front steps to wood. Wood integrates everything in a warm colour scheme....See MoreExterior- Street Appeal, help transform our ugly duckling
Comments (41)I agree with several other commentators. I love the look of your house, arches & all. Retro is in! I would pretty much leave as is & concentrate on cleaning concrete & landscaping. You will be amazed at what a difference good landscaping will make to the street appeal. With the right colors in your planting you might even come to like the look of your home like most of us already do. In a busy world the last thing you want is more upkeep & I think you would be making a rod for you own back if you render or paint the brick. And keeping it true to the era could add to its resale value. The only things I would change is the color of the garage doors & facia to either Dulux Natural White or Antique White USA whichever you prefer & the gates black if you want to be safe or a bolder contrasting color. As for the window frames I keep tossing up between the black & the white. Maybe black window frames with black gates would look good. Good luck with it all & look forward to seeing the finished result. Cheers Jenny...See MoreLight exterior colour scheme
Comments (20)Thanks Bigreader! That was very sweet of you, much appreciated!!! Was trawling through Pinterest again while you were posting. Bless you. In case anyone is interested: my bro in Wagga has Surfmist render with colorbond Surfmist door/roof. Looks really nice with his feature woodwork and timber front door. The greyish white colour of Surfmist looks creamy (warm) in the render next to the Colorbond garage door. The builder sent me to look at 2 houses: one with White Duck and I can confirm it looked like unpainted render. The other had Evening Haze render and really didn't register much one way or the other... I actually thought it probably looked the same as the White Duck at the time and dismissed it. The Surfmist definitely doesn't look like unpainted render, as some of the items on Pinterest show. Thanks so much for the reference to Katrina in Wagga - who knew? I'd read her blog several times (and related articles) Dulux told me they had no-one to refer me to for colour help in Wagga so there is an opening for someone :) I'm hoping to use my garage for dog training in the very hot summer so I'm getting more and more stuck on the Surfmist, even with all the insulation and Exsulite....See Moreteeveesnack
