Looks like you're going for a monochromatic look, but for now it's all very grey (grey couch, grey rug, grey cushions, grey wallpaper) so you need stronger accents of black & white, black to give it more depth and white to brighten it up (could just be the photo, but looks a bit dark) and then add some bling with silver & mirror accents, which I see you've already done with the curtain rods and coffee table legs (love the marble top btw)... so my suggestions would be: 1. Put a large mirror framed in black (silver will wash out against the grey wallpaper) e.g. 2. Looks like a bit of $$ was spent on the curtains so no need to change, but make them stand out by adding a thin black border to the sides (or a thicker say 40-50cm black border at the base) e.g. 3. If possible get a bigger side table (as the current one is completely lost in that corner) and a higher one too (as it sits too low compared to height of arms of couch) and place a nice silver or mirror base with black shade table lamp, e.g. 4. Get a rectangular black & white (animal print my perso fav) ottoman and place it at the open end of your living area, which will frame and zone the space but still allow easy access on either sides as well as creating extra seating when entertaining, e.g. 5. Remove a couple of the current cushions (too much of same-same) and add mix & match cushions, a couple of black & white ones to pick up the ottoman and one or two white faux fur ones to add a bit of glam (even add a white faux fur throw as suggested by ASVI) again same e.g. 6. Group some objects, pots, books, candles and/or flowers/fern (for warmth) in the same colours of black, white, grey and silver and create a nice little vignette on your coffee table, e.g.

Definitely glass and stainless steel for the TV unit, some round glass and stainless side tables rather than a coffee table in the middle and then invest in some colourful non-stripey cushions! The floor will look fab as a feature in the room but in winter it may need the warm feel of a plain coloured shaggy rug in front of your lounge.

Hi shortstuff27, Love your colour choices already! With your budget constraints, I agree, go for the charcoal remnant, why not try to spruce it up a bit -,see if they can do the trim in the 'cherry blossom pink' to compliment the scheme! Splash some brilliant white paint on the top of your existing coffee table to contrast against the charcoal and add some matching (pink / patterned and textured) scatter cushions or a throw. It will be stunning! Good luck whatever you decide!

Your room looks fine. There is no such thing as a whole room in any specific style in the real world. All our rooms are just a mixture of a bunch of things that we like and find comfortable. If anything, all it needs is some colour and brightness. This can be achieved with cushions (make them tactile as well so that people use them and don't just throw them on the floor) in a few brighter colours and perhaps some sheer curtains and a brighter floor rug (this bit can be a bit more expensive). Other than that this is a lovely family living room. It is quite reasonable that you and your husband only like art that you actually 'like' rather than just pretty pictures on your wall for the sake of interior design. But, if you happen to find anything else you both like then add it to your home as you go.
