What plans do you have for dealing with the autumn leaves? I'm not quite sure what you mean by a gatehouse and arbour on the fenceline but have you checked the regulations for structures on your boundary? Where do you want to plant the hedge and what is the width?

After much consideration of your photo, I really think you have it right! The gold mirror matches the gold towel rail ! All your other elements, i.e. the plant and stand, match perfectly with and enhance the room's overall look. I think the suggestion of painting the wall behind the mirror, is an excellent one, in a shade of green which would tie in with the tiles on the floor and the plant. You have the ceiling height to handle it. I wouldn't be shy with a dark emerald green to complement the tiles, I think the gold would then really shine and blend with the gold hand rail. Photocopy the pic of the room and using a texta, colour in the wall and see what you think before committing. Be brave. Congrats on a beautiful room! I'm so glad I asked for ideas! It really opens up my options. I'm starting to think using the front verandah as an entry is an option. 'oklouise' we have ample parking away from the house, and I like your idea of enclosing part of the smaller verandah. We will be covering the ugly concrete (euphemistically called 'alfresco' in the real estate plan) with paving probably. I'm thinking that a 2.4 metre wide verandah across the front of the house would provide enough shelter for an entry, but not enclosed.
