We'd whole heartedly agree that you start with an artwork that you love and use that to guide the colour scheme / the other accent pieces such as rugs and cushions. Do you have a picture of the room? If you get a tan leather to go back with the grey, I would want to see cushions, throws, a rug and artwork that have lots of grey and tan to link the colour palette together. If you go for fabric, then your choices for decorating the space can potentially be broadened to your imagination... depending on what else is already in the space (that's why a photo will help).

Large floor rugs definitely 3 x 4 m in both rooms, coffee table with glass top timber base like Noguchi style, large pot plant on mid century stand in the corner of the living room and classy mirrors on the walls check out Shine mirrors site . Mirrors like rugs can never be to big just make sure they are simple in design.
