If you want to keep the curtains that's fine. The rug is gorgeous but you need to flatten it out with piles of books so you can't see where it's been folded. Use cushions with a circle on them to match the curtains. If you hang a painting it needs to have the colours of the cushions, curtains in it. Try to find cushions with a circle pattern with at least one colour the same as your curtains. Buy a cheap canvas from the reject shop, Use the same colours of your cushions and curtains to paint circles on the painting. Draw the circles with a compass. Then paint circles on the canvas that match the curtains and the colours you have decided to use as the cushions. I think the curtains have restricted your colour use so if you don't want to replace them with something plain use the curtain and cushion colours. The rule is either 3, 5 or 7 colours. Cheap and easy . Remember to prime the canvas with white paint before you start. Another way is to cover the canvas with a wall paper that has circles the same colour as your curtains or cushions. You don't need to paper the edges just the front. Laura Ashley has some gorgeous wall papers and so does Hauzz. It's not difficult and would match the colours you have alraedy in your home....See Moreinterior design advice please... for dining room.
Comments (18)Hi Mel, I agree with siriuskey. It seems a shame that the table is pushed against the wall as it a) limits the seating and b) "feels" quite awkward and cramped. From looking at your floorplan, it would seem that you have the space to pull it out, to the position shown on plan? It would mean re-positioning your lights, but I think would look a lot better. The same goes for the lounge/seating area - I would consider re-positioning the 2 armchairs (one with it's back to kitchen, the other opposite with its back to outdoor area) and adding a sofa under the window. It would mean repositioning your sideboard though. Consider a light large rug to delineate the lounge area and to also bring some light and texture into the room. I'd also consider a rug under the dining table, as you have a lot of dark timber which is pulling light out of the room...See MoreNeed help with layout and design of living room / dining room
Comments (7)To be blunt -- the room isn't really big enough ! So you have to sort out priorities , and space . You have a dining table , and a computer desk . Can you get rid of the computer desk , by having your computer tower mounted behind the couch or similar , and a wireless keyboard and mouse that you can use on the dining table ? Mount the monitor on a wall , or if you don't need in depth graphics , I understand you can use your TV ( I've heard something about the 'refresh rate' is less on a TV ? ) . Maybe even have a monitor but also the option of using your TV ? Could you use a 'breakfast bar' , probably where the computer desk is now , I know its not sociable all staring at a wall , but it would/could serve as a brakfast bar and computer workstation . Could you get rid of the dining table and chairs , and have a large coffee table , or 2 smaller ones , and eat 'casually' ( my polite way of saying eat sitting on the couch ) ? Even mounting the TV on the wall will let you get rid of the cabinet , but I gather you have gaming consoles in there ? And the present arrangement with the pot plants uses some space -- maybe some shelves with them on will still retain the plants but free up floor space ? Just some thoughts off the top of my head ....See Moreshiloh price
