To be blunt -- the room isn't really big enough ! So you have to sort out priorities , and space .

You have a dining table , and a computer desk . Can you get rid of the computer desk , by having your computer tower mounted behind the couch or similar , and a wireless keyboard and mouse that you can use on the dining table ? Mount the monitor on a wall , or if you don't need in depth graphics , I understand you can use your TV ( I've heard something about the 'refresh rate' is less on a TV ? ) . Maybe even have a monitor but also the option of using your TV ?

Could you use a 'breakfast bar' , probably where the computer desk is now , I know its not sociable all staring at a wall , but it would/could serve as a brakfast bar and computer workstation .

Could you get rid of the dining table and chairs , and have a large coffee table , or 2 smaller ones , and eat 'casually' ( my polite way of saying eat sitting on the couch ) ?

Even mounting the TV on the wall will let you get rid of the cabinet , but I gather you have gaming consoles in there ?

And the present arrangement with the pot plants uses some space -- maybe some shelves with them on will still retain the plants but free up floor space ?

Just some thoughts off the top of my head .

It is difficult transitioning to work from home, relocating your work space to another room will free up valuable floor space, starting with your plant corner I would remove the angled shelf (relocate to home office room) and add wall and standing shelf same as your other one, adding shelves to Display your plants on wall would look great, I think your layout that you said didn’t work for you is because your desk crowded the room, I think it could work if you put your dining table where gold stand is and put that behind couch, similar to this, it is just freeing up floor space that will make a big difference for you.

Separating your workspace from your personal space is important for your well being, I see you love plants as do I, decorate your home office with a lovely collection of plants, great for the mind and your soul.

Totally agree with everyone about the working from home situation not being ideal - will be moving the desk out asap so probably won't install anything more permanent on the wall for the computer/desk. Unfortunately just for the time being, my sister is temporarily living with us in our study and there is our desk there for her, so we needed another desk in a separate room (as weeach have so many zoom meetings these days!)

Also agree with the dining table being too big for day to day use - we already eat casually at the coffee table, but still would like space to have friends over (they come even though our space is small haha) so will continue my search for an extendable table that's more appropriately small.

Unfortunately even if I did switch the dining table with the console table, my partner uses his only veto for the layout (haha!) because he really likes the much larger amount of space in front of the TV in the current layout, and is not a fan of the sofa in the middle until we can perhaps afford new (smaller) furniture. For now we are trying to work with what we have and prioritise the storage/shelving we need and a smaller dinner table.

Sounds like you are super busy, just found these gorgeous small dining settings, food for thought when you decide to change, stay well and safe.

It's looking good but you can place wall clocks in your living room. It makes your room classy and attractive.
