Hi, if it's any help I went through this recently too. We built our first new home and colour selection was a nightmare for me, I wanted everything white! With so many different shades of white I was concerned we would get a 'stark' look, I can tell you that's not the case. We have Lexicon quarter on our walls, white ceiling, white porcelain floor tiles, white Caesar bench top in kitchen, white Polyurethane kitchen cupboards, white shutters, even a milky white splash back and marble fireplace surround, I thought it was too much at first...but...when you start furnishing and dependent on what style your after, I was going for a hamptons/coastal relaxed but modern style it will all come together...I found neutral colors bright pillows and soft light really make the home 'alive and inviting' and it always seems fresh, I have some of our home pictured on Houzz, just click through to my account and you can get some ideas :) you can never go wrong with white IMHO or have too much because it's always a great canvas to work with and always in style. Like illegally blonde said its the pieces you place with the white that pop and you can always change to what you feel like, I also have had 3 toasters dependent on what mood I'm in, the white always gives me a blank canvas to work with :) I hope this helps, happy to help with anything you might need :)

Thanks for your comments, my concern was more about scratches, than wipe off splashes etc. Actually if anything the kitchen will get too much light as it forms part of an extension in our reno which will see high rise windows go above normal wall height windows. Resulting in a 3.400m or 11' 15'' high ceiling! It's an open plan area which will have an adjoining dinning area. The colour of our cabinets is a taupe - a bit on the mauve side, called Kashmir, we have increased the tone because of the increase amount of light hitting the cabinets, so looking at a sample in our current low ceiling area is rather tricky. Prior to the colour and texture change we were looking at a Platine grey - neutral and pale, and a texture matt - actually velvety, rather nice. Below are the colours we are considering, Kashmir left, Platine right. A splash back and the island bench top of Quantum Quartz, Statuario Quartz, the dark colour to the far left is Anthracite to be used minimally on some tall cabinets and under the island bench, the ruler represent the aluminium kick board. The cement look grey floor tile our new floor through out the open plan area including entrance. We have also changed from having a white coloured bench top, in a virtual horse shoe shape around the island to it being a darker mushroom brown/dark taupe. (sorry no sample) So guess I am still questioning these 3 new changes: gloss finish for the main cabinet colour (anthracite cupds will remain the velvety texture, these will have most of the light hitting them), the colour of the main cupds Kashmir vs Platine, and the introduction of the darker bench top, which will have a tone of light hitting it - to the point I think sunglasses on certain days will be compulsory). We are use to having grey tones in our kitchen - its from the early 90's. you can see here behind the swatches the grey cabinetry work we have been used too and the mid-dark grey marble floor we have had too. We will offset theses grey tones with a wood ceiling, vic ash either left as natural as possible, varnished clear matt or possibly even limed a touch. (pet hate is timber where tone is beautiful and then goes darker or worse goes to a yellow tone), this wood will go out under our eaves and be repeated under an out door eating area. Plus we will have a lot of decking. Will definitely introduce some wood in floating shelves, chopping boards, some copper or brass. Possibly glassy/coppery pendants in kitchen and dinning area. Any thoughts on my second guessing? Thanks so much.

Ali your kitchen looks amazing. The colours are wonderful. I have a question for you about the Rugged Concrete. I’m thinking of using it on our island bench but I’m a little worried about finger marks and cleaning. I’ve read lots of bad reports about the other Caesarstone concretes like Fresh,Raw and Sleek. And I’m hoping Rugged Concrete is easy to clean. How is yours now that you’ve had it for a little while?

Hello Erika, thank you for posting this link, but more importantly one should read the reference material it relies on; namely https://www1.health.gov.au/internet/main/publishing.nsf/Content/562CF83B7AECFC8FCA2584420002B113/$File/NDDT-Final-Report-June-2021.pdf where this tabloid with its sensationalizing headline and selectively quoting from a single study and saying "there is increasingevidence dust control measures do not reduce the levels of silica to non-hazardous levels." all makes for a good story, however this so called "evidence" is of one small study that measured exposure and made its conclusions from dry cutting practices, which is a practice that is in contravention of existing Work Health Safety regulations. So going back to the lead reference material of your link; the National Dust Disease Task Force Report, they identify the major problem is Non-Compliance of those said safety guidelines that I discussed in my earlier post, where this non-compliance is happening by some remaining Stonemasons who now knowingly don't comply with those safety guidelines. I suspect I am not going to change your mind on this issue but I think it is wrong to demonize the product when the problem today is human behaviour of those wanting to save on their bottom line and knowingly fail to comply with set safety regulations. Your condemnation of this product is like saying all Cars should be banned because there are some people who drive recklessly. This report from the National Dust Disease Task Force is worth reading along with its recommendations to combat this non compliance. Malcolm
