My house, built in 2003, has purple feature walls in the dining room and 2 bedrooms and green feature walls in 1 bedroom and 2 living areas. That was the fashion then. Recently I decided it's time for an update as the feature walls seem to be absorbing all the light and making the house very dark. So far I've undercoated 2 of the feature walls and what a difference it makes! The rooms are much lighter and now I have to decide on whether to add a lighter colour as feature walls or paint them the same colour as the rest of the room.

Hi Kathy, based on your pic I'm thinking your roof might be Dulux Traditional Colours Crescendo Green or something very similar. Crescendo Green, Cream, the dreaded Mission Brown, Indian Red & Brunswick Green were all heavily used in the 80's when painting everything in heritage colours was 'on trend'. If you are not changing the roof colour I would suggest working with the colour and balancing it out, rather than trying to disguise it will give you the best outcome. Dulux Traditional Colours Silver Grey could work with your green, perhaps picking out the trim in Colourbond Basalt to tie everything together. I would avoid blues with that roof colour, but it's your home so find a colour scheme you love and enjoy your home.

Hey Dounia The colour and the way it has been painted is very much what we saw in the late 90's and early 2000's when we all went through the textured paint feature wall craze. But, saying that Paint and design technology have come a long way since then and I would encourage you not to give up on the copper idea and use a modern approach and product. Dulux have recently added their new range of Design Effects, Here's the copper and concrete look. There's also other options available at www.dulux.com.au. Hi Louise, I did a little mock up for you. I would look at using some more greys and whites and brightening up the room. I mimicked your lamp and just "sprayed it gold" and changed the shade colours to draw your eye up to the artwork. I liked the bedding so played off that a little and added more textures and I love black, white, grey together, super chic and glam. It's amazing what a lick of paint can do. You would need to get permission to do anything to the woodwork, if you're a tenant its maybe best to leave it as is. I dont know what colours the other walls are but if theyre neutral enough you could leave them as is. Hope you like my attempt and happy to answer any q's.
