Hi Neryl, A great little project that you can get a lot of satisfaction from. I wouldn't treat this room in isolation and instead look at making sure the rest of the house influences your decisions. There are some great suggestions here. My thoughts: - Replace floor tiles and tile the walls to the underside arch of the window. Use a white Johnson tile in brick format with black grouting, very economical. - No curtain on the window but I like the idea of the shutter, or use a film on the window but only if privacy is an issue. - Paint window frame white - Paint the rest of the room a feature colour - something rich and in keeping with the house. From the door handles I get the feeling the house is 30's/40s??? This will warm & tighten up the room with class. Could be a deep grey or green. - New wall hung vanity unit, keep it simple. Caroma have a great vintage range that are timeless, not faux replica. - If budget permits, a new toilet suite. Porcher have some economical models from discontinued lines, like the older style Cygnet. They come with the full warranty and are close coupled to reduce cleaning in nooks and crannies. - a new light fitting - say a simple frosted sphere, almost like a cotton ball. - a wall hung mirror in frame rather than anything contemporary. - wall mount everything including the toilet brush. You have a mixed colour palette & an eclectic range of furniture which means that you will end up with a very interesting room indeed. First suggestion: reposition rug so that all of the sofa sits on it equidistantly. At the moment your main colours are: chocolate; white; tan and grey from your sofa, entertainment unit, dining table, kitchen etc. These colours always look great together particularly if they are teamed up with black. So I think if you choose the right artwork with these colours; add copper items to top of your tables and choose cushions in these tones the whole room will come together. You will successfully mix old and new & it won’t be too bold for your taste. Note: artwork should be purchased first & be landscape in orientation. Could your existing artwork hang in the kitchen or hallway as it would be seen from the main room? To give you an idea of what I mean see pic below. Not suggesting that these items are what you would personally choose but focus on the colours and how everything is tied together. PS you could put some of your ornaments on the coffee table.

Hi Jayrees, I totally agree with what Kat had to offer, I would suggest a non geometric pattern on the rug as the floor is already geometric, a light colour and subtle pattern if you prefer a pattern. The mirror should definitely be moved and I would consider a large light print to compliment the new rug and and drapes. It's a pity that the window screen blocks the view (it's a nice view) but the heavy screen is a necessity these days, I would remove the stickers from the glass to help with the openness. Just noticed that you have an air con in the room so you may be able to remove the screen.
