Kitchen advice please

I have a renovating question

My kitchen was designed for possibly an elf... the benches are super low and the pantry door is also very tiny..

.. i need to raise the window to put in a new bench at normal height.. this part is fine.. the question is. . If i replace the bench to the right of the sink (between the sink and pantry) i will not be able to make a bigger door on the pantry.. (the current bench is tiny so the new bench will come out to where the pantry doorway starts... any creative ideas?

Kitchen dimensions are 3.7 x 3.1

Btw.. i havnt painted the kitchen or done the floor yet..

unless the window needs to be replaced for other reasons i've planned another kitchen in an older home with a kitchen counter built across the front of a low window with a small recessed cavity in teh base cabinet to allow space for the window...obviously a pain to clean but the space is used to stand some small pots of herbs and the result looks just like it was meant to be! The issue with the pantry depends on the wall between the pantry and the kitchen and what you intend to do with the whole space but one option could be to enlarge the pantry cabinet across the corner and perhaps re use the old door?.btw the "roof" of the extended pantry need only be as tall as any other wall cabinets.

If it's a stud wall and you have the capability, take the wall down and reconfigure that corner of the kitchen. Otherwise perhaps take the door off and have an opening rather than a door. It's amazing the size difference between the old kitchens and what we are installing as standard now. The kitchen we pulled out of this house only had 450mm deep benches and cupboards too, it was installed in the 1950's and was super modern in it's time.

There is no specific regulation but it would not be recommended behind a gas cook top. If there is a concern you could install the timber behind a glass splash back for protection. There is also a really nice tile that looks exactly like timber as another option.

Looks like the real estate agent photo is quite stretched and that the kitchen is quite small, largely because of that, I'd personally recommend having two medium size pendant lights hanging over your bench-top. As for the dining table, i'd recommend a glass topped dining table, so that light can flow through the glass, so you don't block yourself visually - and in essence, creating an illusion of a larger space then perhaps it actually is. It may be a matter of Style, If you are using Shaker Doors and your kitchen is more in the traditional Federation (Hampton) style then Subway tiles will work well. On the other hand if you are using the Shaker with a more modern feel in a Transitional Style then yes Glass or Smoked Mirror will work (as well as provide you with a smart looking, easy to clean splashback. Thats an interesting idea for the window oklouise.. do you have any pictures?

i don't have any pictures: it was one of my early kitchen plans (prior to CAD and email!!) and the home has since changed hands but the internal window box saved destroying a vintage window in a double brick wall and was well worth the compromise. .if your house is timber framed and clad (looks like old Queenslander with the alcove for the stove?) then your window (if worth saving) could probably be moved

Wow, that 1st photo makes the corner shelf spacious. :)

If the window sill is already at 900mm and unless you want a window ledge - you can leave the window as is, as new houses have the bench flush with the sill.

I do this for a living and love the old houses, the door is tops were it is... you can change the window and still make the sill sit at bench height.
But I'd sit the window 200mm above bench height to give a more of a splash back feel, as if you use a sub tile for splash back there 100mm high so x 2 height will contrast well.
I'd leave it and if it can fit just put the fridge next to the pantry door, all depends if you want to create a larger space? Then yes remove the pantry wall and use the space were you have the mini fridge , and of course if your going to live in it? Sometimes unless your doing this for a quick turn around actually puts a dent in the pride of the house as it is... Google and of course Houzz gives great options on what to do and what not, you'll be right but that's my input...
