Red brick, red roof
I want to improve the curb appeal, and the overall aesthetics while keeping the original red bricks and red roof... Too ambitious?
All suggestions and ideas are welcome!!
At the moment, I'm thinking of replacing the windows with larger charcoal aluminium windows and adding a trim around the windows in a greige/ taupe colour? Maybe something like Dulux Oyster Linen. I'm not sure what's usually used for window trims (render or pieces of painted timber). Then using that same colour for the brick fence at the front to break up the red.
Will also be doing some hardcore landscaping...
Will this work? Or am I too naive to think I can make this much red look epic?
Any suggestions for windows, trim, fence, gutters and fascia are welcome! (Are gutters/ fascia meant to match the windows, roof or walls?)
P.S - the aircon units will be going!

Comments (8)Thanks for your thoughts, they have helped us with our decision. We're now planning on using the barramundi roof tile (it's a grey, a bit softer than the soho nights black. And not so shiny) with matching gutter and fascia. And the cladding in paperbark. I was thinking cream windows instead of the timber, so there's some lighter colours on the brick downstairs to tie it to the top. We can't match it exactly to the paperbark cladding because we aren't using aluminium windows, but I'm hoping the cream (which is supposed to be more of an off-white with this manufacturer) will look okay in the clad dormers upstairs. Comments (2)I would not replace balustrade unless you want a glass one, but I would replace gutters to match your roof so either black or charcoal. Paint the window frames in the same colour and replace front door and remove hand rail in front of the door. If the garage door is in good condition repaint it in a lighter shade of grey. Awnings need update as well you could go for B&W stripes or black and grey, white and grey?? I am so glad you don’t want to paint the bricks. Comments (16)You say this is a 1990's house . Its made to look like a 1930's house at present . To make it look 'modern' would take a lot of work , and IMO destroy the character of the house . Embrace what it is , tidy it and change the focus slightly , but personally I wouldn't take off the scrolls and those little posts , or even the walkway roof . Comments (17)(echoing others here) No, no, no NO! ............The issue isn't the brickwork nor the roof tiles.....rather it's the currently multicoloured trim of say your guttering, garage and windows etc... I'd also argue that the idea of the "award winning" example posted above, will most likely date in time.......although I like the landscaping aspect of that one - but otherwise it's too heavy tonally for my eye and the rear extension is a harsh juxtaposition formally........anyway,I digress.... On your home here I reckon you best to work within the inherent style rather than try and force it into something that it is not. Other things, some not that expensive, will go a long way here, for example, bring the trim colours into consistency, consider relocating the downpipe on the far left brick column, and focus on a proper front landscaping design (including removing the concrete aspect) and de-cluttering the verandah will also make a world of difference. Looks like you have a beautiful established (jacaranda) tree in your front yard - perhaps make that that the "hero" of your frontage / streetscape That's what I did on this project, whilst completely different style the point is it was more about the garden - the house and structure becomes supporting and complimentary to the external landscaped spaces Good luck!
