living room lights help needed!
Comments (12)How tall are your ceilings? They look way too low for a ceiling rose! Those chandelier things are a bit off, aren;t they?? If the house is actually modern, I think it would be better in the long run to get rid of that ceiling rose all together. It is hard to tell from the photos, but am assuming that the other lights are over the kitchen and dining area? With the ceiling fan added to the equation, you would definitely be better off replacing with LED downlights. Get a professional lighting person from Beacon in to show you the best positioning so that you get it right first time. A couple of options on the links you posted would work with your style (ie. plain round glass or a simple white dome), but be careful with options using those decorative "Edison" style filament globes, they only emit 25watts, so not bright enough for task lighting. Comments (12)Looks like you're going for a monochromatic look, but for now it's all very grey (grey couch, grey rug, grey cushions, grey wallpaper) so you need stronger accents of black & white, black to give it more depth and white to brighten it up (could just be the photo, but looks a bit dark) and then add some bling with silver & mirror accents, which I see you've already done with the curtain rods and coffee table legs (love the marble top btw)... so my suggestions would be: 1. Put a large mirror framed in black (silver will wash out against the grey wallpaper) e.g. 2. Looks like a bit of $$ was spent on the curtains so no need to change, but make them stand out by adding a thin black border to the sides (or a thicker say 40-50cm black border at the base) e.g. 3. If possible get a bigger side table (as the current one is completely lost in that corner) and a higher one too (as it sits too low compared to height of arms of couch) and place a nice silver or mirror base with black shade table lamp, e.g. 4. Get a rectangular black & white (animal print my perso fav) ottoman and place it at the open end of your living area, which will frame and zone the space but still allow easy access on either sides as well as creating extra seating when entertaining, e.g. 5. Remove a couple of the current cushions (too much of same-same) and add mix & match cushions, a couple of black & white ones to pick up the ottoman and one or two white faux fur ones to add a bit of glam (even add a white faux fur throw as suggested by ASVI) again same e.g. 6. Group some objects, pots, books, candles and/or flowers/fern (for warmth) in the same colours of black, white, grey and silver and create a nice little vignette on your coffee table, e.g....See MoreDecorating/furnishing the living room
Comments (4)We just decorated an almost identical room. We started with a couple of matching, new, couches in charcoal gray, then, when we could see the size of remaining area, added a rug, a couple of armchIrs, coffee table, side tables, all of which we got from an old wares/antique shop, to add interest, and to avoid an overall matchy look. I then added lots of cushions in greys, white and oranges, which bought in some colour, which was needed, and colourful throws. Finally we added some colourful artworks to the walls. Room now looks cosy and the dark couches are practical and easy care....See MoreNeed tips on how to decorate and furnish my living room
Comments (11)Ok, I see ...one possibility would be to retain the unit as shelving where it is and wall mount the tv on the adjacent wall so that you can optimise seating arrangement. Otherwise I think you are on the right track, a circular rug would work, maybe a couple of mid century chairs might look nice, you could put some trailing plants up high away from your little one, maybe a basket or two to keep toddler clutter in check would go with an eclectic kind of look. If you move to a larger space in the future, mid century chairs would be easy to pair with a couch.. I think try and bring as much storage as you can to keep the space manageable....See MoreAndres Ac
