Changes to Floorplan
Hi Houzzers!!
My sister in-law and her hubby have purchased a property that needs renovating.
They are expecting their first baby in a few months, and are also expecting visitors from overseas to stay with them.
They would like a master suite with walk in robe and bathroom, with a nursery close to or off their bedroom. Also a guest room and a study are the minimal requirements. One bathroom must have a bath tub.
I've attached the floorplan. I would love to hear your ideas on what you would do to accommodate their requirements.
The measurements are metric. Let me know if you would like me to upload a copy with imperial.
I posted this same request previously with a $20k budget. This time, there's no budget. The structure, wiring, plumbing etc is all sound. She'd like to know what floorplan can be achieved with the current home (as opposed to demolishing and rebuilding).

Comments (15)Nice work oklouise. I was thinking the existing porch could be a walk in robe with the current front door being the entrance to the robe. Then reduce the double doors from existing entry to lounge to single and put a new doorway to the study inline with the master/study wall. that way you aren't removing external walls. Entry would then be through a new doorway where the lounge window facing the current porch. If the window is big enough then it might even be possible to use the existing lintil above the window and just remove the window and the bricks below which will save $$. I know you lose hallway but lots of houses (including mine) don't have hall ways per say but use floor coverings or furniture to create walkways around the lounge. Comments (5)first thing we need is accurate measurements for the whole house as the existing dimensions are inconsistent and don't include the central spaces, kitchen, laundry and entry hall... it's always better to plan for the whole house even if you're not ready to weatherproof the sunroom but what are your long term plans for the house..what do you plan to do with the sunroom, would you like to be able to access inside from the garage, what about a deck at the back but what's the height of the floor above the ground, what are the floors, walls and roof made out of, where's north on the plan and describe your climate...See Moreadvice on changing floorplan to open space and in suit

The various floor plan ideas are only valid if they align with budget. Budget limits should not be sidelined until down the track. basic renovation with minimal changes to existing roof, walls and plumbing, they will be preoccupied with the baby so suggest the simplest updates aiming to make the home clean and comfortable but, apart from ensuring the house is weatherproof ignoring any major changes and leaving all outside work till after inside is finished
