4 Bedrooms and 1 Bathroom, or 3 Bedrooms and 2 Bathrooms (ensuite)?
Comments (15)We're building 4x3.5 Two with ensuite and the others with a jack and Jill. Life has changed unfortunately and now everyone in the household works, kids stay at home longer and ageing parents sometimes move in for care. At the moment we have a 3 x 1 and really the only thing we really want for is a second toilet, which growing up we had because we had the one out the back with the red backs....See MoreHelp! 80s bathroom in need of some budget updating ideas
Comments (25)If this is just a budget improvement then I would try to fix the cracked tiles and missing grout, paint the window frame white and add white shutters on the window, paint the vanity white (although I don't like doing that either) and get new handles and taps, toilet roll holder etc., install a lovely white potted plant, as shown above and white fluffy towels. A new white frame on the mirror or replace it with a slightly smaller white framed one. Then I would save up for a white stone bench top or stone overlay bench top and the cream will go nicely with all of it. Unfortunately your shower seems to be the most dated part. If you try to change the door you may find that you have missing tiles, although new floor tiles in the shower would probably look OK and add a glass hinged door. Good luck....See MoreSome ideas for bathroom door
Comments (4)with such generous spaces it would be possible to have a wider tall linen storage at the end of the shower and have the option of an extra wide vanity cabinet with storage underneath and consider space for an underbench washer or a stacked washer dryer to make a fully self contained granny flat...choice of doors would depend on how the rooms are used but i would choose hinged doors into the toilet and bathroom (cheaper labour to install, quieter, easier handles to use, better for moisture and sound control and the back of the door is an ideal spot for a rack or hooks for clothes and extra towels ... the door from the hall into the vanity area could be any types but depends how likely the door is to be closed but cheapest to install would be hinged, then external slider then cavity slider but always consider solid core doors for a better quality result and love the look of the doors in your photo but always good to have an idea of costs for each door for comparison as it can be a big investment when you may need many doors but i have no problem some doors being decorative and some cheaper plain doors but always prefer solid core doors and hopefully there will be some other suggestions for tiles and colour schemes...See MoreSmall house bathroom/ensuite/laundry redesign ideas
Comments (11)@kiwimills I use the lounge a lot, so really not keen on eating into that space. The laundry I really only visit to put on a load of washing or grab the mop (robot vac does the rest) so wanted to pop it into an area where it's closer to the lines and in space that is not being used. Love the ideas though. @Kate yup. I think if you have space issues a dedicated laundry room seems very wasteful for most people. And wasn't there a building regulation that says you can't put them in kitchens in Australia as well? Makes sense to put them where the rest of the plumbing is. I was actually thinking of going for full height if possible to maximise space. Do you find that sliding doors impede your access or frustrate you accessing the laundry? Obviously compromises have to be made, but just wondering whether that ends up being an issue? @oklouise Thanks a heap! The layout of the house at the moment has a hinged laundry door leading to some steep (non-railed!) steps leading to the backyard. I rarely use it for anything except to get airflow into the house, but was wondering if it would be important to keep? Obviously it's about what I need at the moment, but am also considering resale value just in case....See MoreGallifrey
