Help I want to paint my kitchen pink!

Hi All, I feel like I am going round in circles.

We have had the kitchen dining room knocked through and some new doors and windows put in. It has created a lovely bright space with windows north, east and south.

We decided to keep the kitchen units ( although I don't like them I hate waste) and revamp it with new knobs and cup handles.

Now we have put the new floor in I can't help but feel I want to paint the units dusty pink but husband is totally against which I understand. The walls are all white because we have some lovely paintings and all the tiles are going to be replaced with white glass splashback.

What colour/colours should I paint the units? Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi,

"Don't do it !!"..........It can look very nice if you choose the right pink but the lighting in the room will change the colour dramatically leaving you with a shade of pink you don't like and it will be out of fashion in less than 12 months..

Suggestion:

Paint everything white to keep it fresh, use a Farrow & Ball Paint as this has a slightly chalky texture which works well with this style of kitchen.

Then, put a colour change bulb into the glass cabinet, the open units and above the Aga. These are relatively cheap to buy and easy to fit.

With the touch of a button you get a beautiful pink glow too the kitchen.

When you get fed up of this you change it to blue, green, amber etc..

You set it on pink and your husband changes it back to a white light when you leave the room (Smiley Face)

Well, why not pink. Doesn't have to be all pink. Our not quite finished utility room is Little Green Ashes of Roses and LG Stock deep, you can just see that to right in photo. Walls are Crown trade Soft white. Main light comes from a window to the south out of shot. Looks great and we're very happy with it.

Thanks Anne and I will look at pale grey given the maintenance considerations. I have already paid for a colour consultant who was great but the Reckless grey she suggested for the house render and basalt gutters/fascia and front wall were too grey when we had the render samples put on and while it had a modern look, it was not giving the beach/coastal feel. I will head back into our inspirations paint store this morning to see if I can find the warm grey colours that have the most similar colour make up to Dune, and go from there. Anne you don't happen to know the dulux colour most close in composition to Colorbond Dune so I know where to start? Thanks again and I would love to hear from anyone who has got a dune roof and hear if they tried light coloured gutters and what render colours they have used on their walls.

Subway tile laid in brick pattern. They look like they might be the larger 100 X 200 size ? with a grey grout. Any tile store should be able to help confirm size to give you the same look.

Hi temple274, I love your utility its so confident and pleasing to the eye. I'm wondering about LG pink slip or dorchester pink on the island with on the island with a warm pale grey on the rest.

I would try Elephants Breath (F&B) for the cabinets and paint the wall behind the lovely chest of drawers Cinder Rose (F&B), if you have a painting that would look good on that. Paintings can really look nice on coloured walls, so you don't have to have all walls white. I'd keep the kitchen cabinets neutral. A paint colour on a wall is easily changed if you change your mind.

And if you haven't just retiled the wall behind the stove, you could consider tiling that with pink tiles. Just don't say to your husband that they are pink ;-) These are officially called Aubergine.

Why not pick a neutral that has a pink undertone, that way it will still be technically pink but may look less saturated.

Carolina, the chest of drawers is not staying it's going back in to the sitting room i'm afraid but I love that colour of pink. Could I ask if you think it matters painting a feature wall if it has a door or window in it. I was wanting to paint an end wall in the sitting room (maybe cinder rose?) but wasn't sure if it looks odd with a white door in it?

wow I'd say don't do it. I think it can some times the idea of pink is great but it can turn out to be a Barbie mess. Why not accessorize instead I think you can still have you preferred colour without the Barbie(but if that is what you are after I've also attached a pic of a very pink kitchen)

I really like Farrow and Balls Peignoir. It reads grey in some lights but also gives the prettiness you are probably after.
But I also agree with earlier comments that pink could look like a 6 year olds taste if not used with restraint.
I would paint the base cabinets and the overmantle in a pale grey and just paint the wall cabinets in a pale pink.
Alternatively you could keep your current kitchen cabinet colour and just paint the inside of the glass cabinet and the inside of the wine racks in a deep pink.
Whatever you decide if the end result is too syrupy a green on the walls will help soften the overall look.

This kitchen was painted in Mylands Soho House. Looks much greyer on their website (and/or on my screen). Pretty though.

I'd probably paint the wall opposite the fireplace a different colour. If the doors were more towards the centre of the wall, I think it would look better if you made that short wall a feature wall. Mind you, I think that you can paint any wall in any colour, as long as you love it.

It also depends on where furniture goes, colour of furniture, colour of art, rugs...

Great White looks very cold and has a violet tinge. Pink Ground, Setting Plaster and Dead Salmon are warmer and have a pink/brown undertone.

Hello....snap, I'm having a new kitchen and thought about a pinky/grey for them....but not able to find the exact colour, some are just too pinky....

Hi Rach. I like Jonathan's idea of painting inside those cabinets which maybe your husband will agree to and perhaps some pink for tiles. I've copied a link to a houzz tour where they did just that. I'd also look at the colours colourhappy suggested and team them with a warm grey. Dimity could work on the walls if you could get away with that :)

Hi. We photographed this hand painted kitchen last year. Island unit picked out in pink, used against a backdrop of mist grey wall units. I started off an old sceptic, but left the kitchen converted! Hope this helps. You can find the full set of pix on my houzz site.

John, those colours in the Hale house are just what I'm looking for and just painting the island could work. So thank you very much.

Minnie I could also paint the inside of the glass cupboards in the same pink because those will have glasses in. I might be able to paint a small accessory like a plant pot or some pink on a cushion to tie it to the dining area??? Thanks everyone.

Love the idea of painting the insides of the cabinets and perhaps the island too, pink(ish). Good luck with your project. Hope you'll keep us up to date.

You have a lovely classic kitchen, so why ruin it? You could paint the walls any shade of pink you like as so easy to rectify if the colour isn't right. Painting the units is a lot of work and I just don't feel it's necessary. You can add accessories in pink if you want, but please don't touch the units. I'm siding with your OH on this!

Rach, the beauty of paint is just that. It's paint. Another tin, another shade and it doesn't cost a fortune. I painted the bathroom three times, before my wife got it how she wanted it!!!
