Teensy powder room - how to modernise
Comments (36)True, if they want frou frou, then definitely go for something else, these sinks are more space design oriented and for the environmentally responsible, but not necessarily pretty. A woman using them may find it unattractive & maybe even uncomfortably odd. But personally, as a man, using a powder room full of scented candles and lace makes me feel the same way! Ha! I would've agreed with you a month ago about the wallpaper & only reason I suggested it was I recently used that exact one at a dinner party (where one of the owners was an interior designer! But maybe that means braver with risks?) I actually found instead of having the size make an impression, I was busy being wowed by the wallpaper, it WAS overwhelming, but in a pleasant way that made such an impression I remembered it for this post! Anyways, it's fun to hear everyones suggestions! cheers!...See MoreMarble hexagon floor tile in contemporary bathroom??
Comments (17)Hi Amanda, the hexagon tiles on the floors will absolutely look great too and if that's the dream, then go for it. Personally, I would also try to run the hex tiles up and over the bath hob if your budget allows. A light grey grout (instead of white) and also sealing the grout properly will help to maintain. I like both vanities, they are very similar, and would probably go with the one that offers the most drawer space as there's not a lot of storage in the bathroom (speaking of which, add a niche in the shower area if you can). Also bear in mind the toilet roll holder and make sure it can be fixed to the side of the vanity despite the drawer (as you can't fix to the other side of the toilet which I presume will have a glass shower screen). Lastly, I know you've already mentioned white, but have you considered timber (or timber-look) panels for the drawer fronts? It's just a suggestion, but it will bring some warmth into the modern space and may also be another way to tie in with the federation style of the home. Found those couple of photos to give you an idea how you can introduce timber... https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/designer-bathroom-project-contemporary-bathroom-melbourne-phvw-vp~32381930 https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/neutral-bay-house-contemporary-bathroom-sydney-phvw-vp~19885477...See MoreUgly bathroom reno

Comments (18)yes to all, we did have the tiles professionally sealed, but sealing is not a cure all in my experience but I'm sure it helps considerable . my wife does buy those hand made goats milk styles soaps etc and I don't imagine there is anything more testing for stone, and yes it does mark. The Grey ( bane of my existence )granite much more so than the beige travertine ) I must admit though, the kids bathroom was almost non existent as one has sensitive skin and uses pump pack. I would also imagine climate, airing/ sunlight, volume of use and the time you have to manage it would also be contributing factors. We are way short on time and they don't get the attention they deserve, so I would suggest asking around, others may manage it better and it not be an issue. If your only doing your bathroom you may consider the risk factor not worth it for the volume, but for me, the advantage of travertine in the rest of the house far out weighs any marking issue in the showers, and wont stop me from using it again. To be honest when we sold the last house I just took to the shower with one of those paint scrapers with the razor in the end and most of it came off and it didn't detract from the look of the house. Sorry i have probably only muddied the waters even more, good luck with it....See MoreJE C
