Tiled kitchen splashback advice
Comments (14)My two cents worth would be to extend the tiles to cover everything below the canopy of the extractor (could go higher but that would be the minimum) and use that as your level on the other wall. So you ignore the curved glass (I assume that that's kind of the point of being transparent) and go with the straight edges of the tiles. You certainly wouldn't want a funny little segment of painted wall below the curved glass – it will look awkward and be very difficult to keep clean. My remaining concern is – have you already installed the rangehood or can it be easily taken back down to allow the tiler to do a really good, neat job and then the rangehood can be installed nice and tight against the tiles?...See MoreAdvice re kitchen design (bulkhead or not)
Comments (4)a real shaker would not have added anything that was not useful so tall storage might be useful but, remembering the space is only 30 cm deep, do you need to store that much shallow storage (maybe suitcases stored sideways?) we have high ceilings and the space above the kitchen cabinets has wall to wall 60cm tall windows which provides gorgeous light in the room (the other walls have no bulkhead because we felt it made the room feel over crowded...we do have a bedroom where we installed a dropped ceiling with bulkhead to overcome a height "problem" over wardrobes and are very pleased with the effect...See MoreKitchen cabinetry advice please
Comments (25)I went through that last year. And, whatever you end up using, the Ikea kitchen planner is a great help in working through choices, layout etc. I can recommend IKEA cupboards, which I got in two colours (antique white and a light ash) - and their installation is even cheaper if you put the cupboards together yourself (even doing the frames for a carpenter is well worth it). The drawers and drawers inside drawers are excellent. I also had to use Kaboodle from Bunnings, as I wanted a corner pantry - it's a system that's also worth considering - my pantry is well made and goes well with the other cupboards. I didn't use IKea for benchtops and splashbacks, as my carpenter had a supplier from whom he could stuff wholesale, which cut costs as well. Twelve months on, I'm still very happy with the kitchen, the quality of cupboards etc....See MoreI need your kitchen-lighting advice
Comments (27)the easiest way to light any space is look at which way the globes point, and you can see it in the picture you posted. When that fitting is turned on the light hits the ceiling first and washes down from there. What you need is functional lighting whether you make a statement of the light or let the kitchen do the talking is up to you, the best form of task lighting for you in there would be a 3 circuit track system, allowing you to place and point the light where you want it. And being 3 circuit the same track could have 3 different functional light fittings suspended from the 1 power source....See MoreUser
