You will have to measure the area first your dining chairs have to sit on the rug fully when pulled out on all 4 sides and then add a bit more for good measure otherwise it will pull the rug every time you want to sit. What is really good option is to go to local carpet place ask them to show you what remnants they have and pick nylon if they have it. Rugs are about 4m wide so you only need about 2.5m and get them to overlook to the size you need . They are usually under$100 for a linear metre. It really won't break the bank. Try Carpet court and places like that. Good luck ....See MoreOdd shape kitchen living dining area
Comments (12)I would build a sleek new TV cabinet to match your new kitchen cabinetwork along the full length of the wall under the air conditioner, which will visualy extend the space and make the kitchen and living area seem more integrated. Move the couch to the other side of the room, and have it about one metre off the study wall so that you can walk between the back of the couch and the study wall, which becomes a circulation space. If you have room add an open sided bookcase/room divider opposite the front door to give more definition to the entry and more seperation to the living area. Add a couple of pedestal based armchairs in the space between the new TV cabinetwork and couch, which can be moved and rotated around easily, with a large rug to anchor the living area. Comments (8)Looking at the design suggested above I have a couple of concerns with the kitchen and bathroom. Both look cramped. I suggest removing the separate shower in the bathroom and moving up the vanity and toilet. A shower over the bath is not ideal, but will give you more space, which I suspect may be essential in a bathroom with no windows. I would also suggest a skylight or solar tube to bring in natural light. This could change the whole feel of the room. With regards to the kitchen, I would lose the end cabinets as they will be awkward to use and I firmly believe that corner cabinets are a blight in any kitchen. A galley kitchen would be easier to use. Also, maybe move the sink and dishwasher to the other wall and reduce the depth of the bench along the wall with the family room, to give more space between the cabinetry. I know this will leave you with less cabinet space in the kitchen, but if you keep benchtop to a minimum on the wall with the stove and sink, you may be able to fit in enough wall cabinets to compensate, especially as you will be taking them to the end wall. Also, a nice buffet/hutch in the new dining space could provide overflow space for little used items as well as crockery and cutlery. I would suggest drawers below bench height instead of cabinets. They are much easier to access and hold more than cabinets....See MoreFloor plan ideas for raise and build under of Queenslander
Comments (8)i was wondering about a downstairs front door but then how would you use the upstairs entry and what about potential loss of the grandparents' bedroom and space taken away from the garage and storage... different internal stairs meant enlarging the whole downstairs floor area (and changing the roof) and sacrificing space needed for the new upstairs deck and future pool (and extending further into the yard encroaches on the neighbours' views) but the old front stairs can be lengthened to maintain the original look of the house and you'll find that friends and family will more likely come in through the garage or rumpus room and the old front stairs will be used for only very enthusiastic sales people and photo ops but you do need to confirm all the dimensions on the original floor plan as the room sizes are inconsistent and an accurate original floor plan (including exact location of doors and windows) will help ensure that my suggestions could fit with the least amount of alteration to the existing structure and may also invite different suggestions from other HOUZZERS and happy to redraw your plans if you can correct this copy...See MoreInterior Design By Jo
