For something bright and colourful a blue accent would look stunning. Otherwise stick to neutral, warm tones such as cream or beige, perhaps in a hexagonal tiles as Monika suggested above or a warm marble. Have you considered an aluminium splashback? Easier to clean than tiles and glass, and you can get any design including the look of tiles, an artwork or favourite photo. Hi Joy, we are often asked this very same question by our clients, especially when it comes to Island Units and Stone tops with Waterfall Ends where it is a shame to disrupt this design by installing a visible power point. We actually make all our cabinets with Solid Timber top rails as standard and so the solution we have come up with for invisible Power Points is to set them into the carcass top rail behind a door or drawer. You can then plug in and close the door against the lead while using the appliance in question. The back of our doors / drawers and benchtops don't have sharp edges and so this system works really well. We also fully enclose the space behind the rail to conceal all the cables; you will just need to speak with your cabinetmaker about incorporating this custom detail into your cabinets as well as plan the cable entry points with your project manager or Electrician. We use a Clipsal C16 architrave power point for this, because they are quite small at only 42mm high, where Clipsal make these in either a single or a double. I hope this helps Regards Malcolm

Hi Tanya, kitchen designers do mix Splashback materials from time to time, especially when this is what a client likes. All types of materials can be blended; you just need to consider their serviceability for their position, their colours to compelment the overall design and then plan their junctions beforehand so these all look and work best together. The distinct advantage of Glass splashbacks are that they have no course grout lines and so are not there to stain and discolour whereas Glass Splashbacks are really easy to keep clean and always looking their best. I know this is not what you asked but have you considered using all Glass where Glass with its benefits can also be printed on the back (instead of just a solid colour) so can be printed to look like tiles, but can also look like timber, stainless steel or even marble or granite; and done at a much lower cost to these later materials.
