Follow the above suggestions of white curtain over wardrobe, replace bedside lamps with the taller white shades (I love the rope design given!) and change over big black cushion to white, and lower the three pictures 10 cm to fit inside the wall space given by the door frames. Make sure the doors are painted white as well as trim. Then put red lamps either side of TV - changing them to battery candles instead of electric. Change the TV antenna to one where the antenna is hidden behind a photo frame (buy from Dick Smiths I think). The whole section under the mantle and window sill including the floor brick ledge, needs to painted white gloss. Around the 'fire place' there needs a better fitting out with a wide white gloss wooden trim and inside needs work to be white at the back. Have blind same as on long windows - alternately have blind white material and put white sheers in front over long windows. Replace the two baskets to a lower wide basket with one big pot plant that leaves a 200cm gap in height from top of 'fire place'. Maybe the baskets could be further along in the corner on the brick ledge and floor under the window and have a small pot plant or vase of fresh flowers above on ledge. Hang a large red patterned fabric on the wall behind the ladder (starting slightly higher than the door frame and finishing slightly above skirting). Preferably move the electrical point to behind the dressing table or place a basket in front or can the mobile phone go on the bedside table and keep electrical point for vacuuming? Place a heavy, wide white and pale blue striped, cloth over box at end of bed or have upholstered. Finally, have a white background picture - maybe a beach scene - which includes pale blue and a touch of red or pink, above bed. Having silver wall sconces on silver edged oval mirrors either side of picture (centered over end of bed), would be wonderful as they would tie in your style of furniture. Keep the modern white shaded rope based lamps as well. I hope this helps. Best wishes.

Hi everyone, I'd like to thank you all for your input. Have been a busy spring and summer, but now I'm back and able to focus on the living room. Couple of things have been done/removed since lately: 1. Leather lounge set: I've (luckily) sold the leather lounge set - absolutely great piece with great quality, but not my taste at all. It made a world difference to the living room and even dear hubby, who liked the set, did acknowledge that the difference of less furnitures is great. 2. The rug 3. The white cabinet 4. New curtains with pelmet I love the pelmet although it's old style and yes, the curtains are too short! Will amend this at later stage :) These changes have made a huge impact on the room. Also, I'm also open to change the dining table with chairs for another nice option in an attempt to make this more interesting/cozy/inviting. So, these are the only things that I won't be able to change (we may (note on may) also move house by the end of this year/early next year) # Blinds # Colour of trims and built-in bookcase # Camel back sofa - I'm happy to reupholster it though and change the fabric. This will cost $2000 but I think it's worth it since they are really comfortable and are of good quality. I'd like to integrate the white frame with the gold poster in the design - an idea is to place 3x posters on the biggest wall of the air conditioner. I'm aware that a brown frame may suit the gold poster better, but I'm so tired of the colour brown at this moment. --------- So, I now feel I'm able to adjust as per your suggestions and recommendations much easier now. Appreciate every response and idea (And sorry for the mess of papers on the desk and floor! We're busy professionals and sometimes I have to let my husband have his creative space despite my OCD when it comes to decluttering and keeping it tidy)

Hi Lorna, it is a lovely space. A big challenge in these rooms is getting comfortable storage because the only walls offering height is the wall you need for the bed. The other walls are too low for you to be able to access storage on them even if you position it there(like under the window seat). So if you need storage/closet space, you might want to consider putting the wardrobe/closeton the far left side next to the bed so that it doesn't close in the room too much and then have a chest of drawers on the right side(1st image), or if that won't give you enough storage you might need to go either side of the bed, in which case, putting shelves behind the bed will project your bed forward out of the recess between the closets(2nd image). Also worth considering a bed without an and so that is one less thing to dodge around(and kick you toe on) in the tighter space. Happy renovating:)

I just finished our new ensuite, which has a 1600mm vanity. I have 4 lighting circuits (switches): 1. 2 x downlights for the main bathroom in a similar place to you. 2. Another 2 x downlights ( 1 over each sink) 250mm off the wall (vanity is 500mm deep so halfway between person and mirror). 3. Extractor Fan / Heat Lamp and 4. Strip light under vanity for late night trips. The downlights are dimmable so you can have the main bathroom in a medium light and then you can choose how much to crank your vanity lights. The idea is that the light should shine onto your face hence they are installed in front of the person and they are on a gimble so they can be tilted to point at your face. I think you are in Australia so I can tell you they are the Domus Aqua Tilt 13 and are fully sealed (ip65) so no issue having over your shower, etc. They are also very bright as the light bounces off the white tiles, so really they are only needed when applying makeup. It's hard to know exactly where your lighting needs to go when you just have plans in front of you, but you could always get your electrician to wire both for wall sconces and downlights and then when you are further along you can choose whether to cut downlights or have wall lights. (Remember to take pictures and measurements of the wire locations before they close in the walls / ceiling!) If you try downlights first, it's also a lot easier to change your mind (i.e patch a ceiling) than wall lights as that usually means drilling through tiles..
