W.I.R & Ensuite Design help needed
Comments (5)I like @oklouise kitchen remodel as more functional than standard design but Like a clear hallway of 900mm streamlined and functional fir moving furniture in so I'd lose some width from mbdrm and wir and length from mbdr so ensuite an wir can be longer rather than wider or alternatively could have ensuite across length of backwall and wir in front of it with no doors and slider to ensuite it's also good to have shwr in back Cnr so don't slip on floor getting to basin or loo...See MoreMaster bedroom, WIR, ensuite help
Comments (10)I would be worried first about the other problems in your plan before addressing the compact ensuite. The narrow dog-leg corridor is a bit dark and nasty, but hard to avoid with such a narrow lot. There are design tricks you can do such as relocating the hall window to bring in more light, introducing some 45 degree angles to the corner walls, widening the middle part of the dog leg to 1200mm (it looks about 1000mm), and some careful placement of mirrors to improve this bad situation. While replanning your ensuite/WIR think about your bedhead position and the relationship to the door. It looks like the only option is under the window, which is too bad if you have a bedhead that is much higher than the window-sill. It is also a bit tight opening the door to bedroom 1 to be confronted by the end of the bed. An offset door, as previously suggested makes more sense for furnishing, and a better entry. A good designer should always place typical furniture in a plan so the client knows how the space flows. I would be annoyed having to walk around the bed to go from WIR to ensuite, which is why they are traditionally adjacent to each other (and not four metres apart). There are lots of better options, I would make your designer come up with some alternatives. Or engage a better designer. Comments (23)for ventilation into the bedroom isn't there a wide highlight window above the bed already?? you only need an air gap on both sides for cross ventilation as there's the window above the bed and two doors into the bedroom (and the windows in the wiw and ens) as well as the balcony doors and you think you need an extra door? if you look closely at the plans you will see that the bedroom door opens without blocking the entry to the wiw which leaves about 2300 for the TV wall (don't forget the framing) and if you subtract an extra door you lose about 90cms off the tv wall as well as reducing the storage walls in Kate's plan by about 2m (ie the L shape corner of the wiw) and/or lose a second vanity and add a second doorway into the ens in my design and it doesn't function better and the balcony door should be narrower to allow for curtains to be pulled back to at least one or both sides and the opening to the balcony door is also on the wrong end so curtains will be bunched up against the TV when the curtains are open but assume you wanted the doors to be that wide for a reason?? but, long after we've become used to the look of a space the way it functions will either please or drive you crazy and we all wonder if we should have done it differently.....See MoreMaster, WIR, ensuite design
Comments (9)I agree with you @dreamer! We have updated the layout slightly to the previous which I will post. I am happy however my husband seems to feel it is pokey/ doesn’t flow well. He thinks a lot of other options are potentially being compromised by the bath location? He doesn’t like the way the rear of the toilet pokes into the WIR ( ever thought the custom cabinets mean the rear of it is shelves for shoes etc) He doesn’t like that we only seem to have room for towel hooks not rails. None of these things seems to bother me as much as I feel once it’s finished you won’t notice these things? Before we do our final sign off I want to ensure there isn’t a completely different design by looking at only the external walls. Ie: not just moving things within the existing spaces? I don’t mind about bed orientation and don’t want a tv in the room...See Moreoklouise
