Framing is an art unto itself. Vincent Van Gogh's wealthy brother was a framer. I suggest, just as with any design choice, you talk to friends and relatives to get hooked up with a local pro. They will help and guide you toward a frame that compliments and enhances the art while working with your personal style. I typically pay three to four times as much for framing than I did for the art it surrounds...my framer is also an artist and I have commissioned a few of her pieces, the most recent a collaboration on a collage. Italians let the features of the house and the garden do the talking, and don't use too many colours. Are you patient enough to let the landscaping colour up the picture? I can see tall pencil pines framing the entrance and clipped hedges in formal arrangement. If you don't like the current colour palette (white, grey,dark grey?) then you could go the cream-sandy-tan route more in line with the italianate palette. Still let the garden do some talking, especially as your house sits high off the street so to a passer by the main view will be of the garden. Fab frontage.
