Hi. I measured it out on my own benchtop. To me, 40cm is bit wide for the length of your benchtop, UNLESS you stagger their drops, which might look rather striking with their beautiful shape and reflective quality.

Barring that, swap them out for 30cm.

the other alternative is to use only TWO of the 40cm and return one, or use it somewhere else, like a powder room for example.

They are very modern and will certainly reflect wonderful light, I would still go with the 40cm as I think they will look great, if however you decided after installation that you would prefer the 30cm I don't see a problem with just swapping them over using the same ceiling installations and spacing cheers

I think the 30cm ones will work better. And always use odd numbers. One 40 or 50cm pendant or three 30cm pendants will work. They look lovely.

Here's a photo that has changed my mind about scale. This island is a bit longer than yours, I think, but look how large the pendants are. Looks great.

we were told to go big for our pendants as our room as a whole is 11.5 long x 5.5 wide, since we had to cut the island I was worried there wouldn't be enough room between them?

Of course, I don't mind at all, I got them in beacon lighting (online), they have them in 20, 30 and 40cm, they have a buy one get second half price at the minute. I just came across this picture, this island is larger than mine I think. Do you guys think it'll work? I love the staggered but think if I ever wanted to change the pendents id have to stagger them again?

No, if you replace pendants that have staggered drops, the fittings are completely removed and new pendant fittings are installed in their place. The electrician just shortens the drops without cutting them & the extra lenth is hidden away in ceiling.

Meant to say I didn't realise how large your overall space will be, so understand about large pendants. It's all about scale.

Northstar, looking at the picture now, the pendants work perfectly. It was hard to visualise how they would look with just the measurements. Great job. And your kitchen looks fabulous.

Thanks everyone! It just happened that that picture came up on my Facebook feed, it must of read me mind! Sadly it's not my kitchen though :( this is a picture of my plan, my island is shorter than this now. And I think shorter than the one in the photo. I hope they won't be too over powering!

Northstar, I'm sure the 40 won't overpower. It's good seeing your actual floor plan, helps put things in perspective. You mentioned the cluster-type light for dining would be close to ceiling...is that because of its proximity to the island pendants? What's your ceiling height and the distance between far side island bench and where you envision your table & chairs will be placed?

Thanks Annb1997, the cluster type light is for the living area, we will have it close to ceiling because the ceilings are 2.7, it's what was recommended by the electrician. I'm hoping to place the table and chairs centre with the sliding doors.

It will look really lovely in your living area. I like how well it complements the island pendants.
