Thanks Anne and I will look at pale grey given the maintenance considerations. I have already paid for a colour consultant who was great but the Reckless grey she suggested for the house render and basalt gutters/fascia and front wall were too grey when we had the render samples put on and while it had a modern look, it was not giving the beach/coastal feel. I will head back into our inspirations paint store this morning to see if I can find the warm grey colours that have the most similar colour make up to Dune, and go from there. Anne you don't happen to know the dulux colour most close in composition to Colorbond Dune so I know where to start? Thanks again and I would love to hear from anyone who has got a dune roof and hear if they tried light coloured gutters and what render colours they have used on their walls.

Thank you for your comments, I do agreed with your comments of considering not rendering as we don't dislike the brick, we just thought rendering would bring it up to a more modern feel. We have an established tropical garden already....so would play on that with the timber and see what we think. Currently, the roof is manor red, but liking the Ironstone better than the current. Fiona, you have a very traditional looking home, with some nice rustic looking brickwork. A rendered box added to the first floor is going to look like it was plonked in with it's contemporary smooth finish contrasting with the traditional, ground floor. Had you considered some other forms of lightweight cladding such as James Hardie's Linea weatherboards, which are much more low-maintenance than traditional weatherboards and work well for first floor extensions to traditional homes? I have Monument windows black brick and render in Dulux white duck. The whole inside is painted in Whisper white but it was way to bright for out side. The designer chose the Dulux white duck and I’m very happy with the colour. Looking at your house and imagining without all the scaffold that’s what I would choose. Grab a sample and paint a large piece of cardboard, that way you can move it around and see it in the sun, shade etc, remembering that the scaffold creates a massive amount of shade.
