I agree, a unified floor will help with the feeling of a bigger, uninterrupted floor. I think the white on walls is fine, although I also think a soft but warmer tone might be suitable so the ambience is still warm and inviting. I can see an angled wall that appears lighter than the left of kitchen, I would hang a large mirror on this wall, to create a false room beyond, the angle will help reinforce this idea, and is a nice touch to a dining area, however informal. I would also take your lounge and try to position it facing your window. I assumes there's one in the far end we cannot see, the sofa could be away from the island back creating a walkway, and consider relocating your sideboard below it elsewhere. I can imagine it even along the back of the sofa as a console table, a lamp on top would create the perfect scenario for night reading and ambient light.

I'm merely seconding a lot of opinions above. So, I would paint the cabinet, the window frame and also the inner side of the door a dark shade of aqua/blue like Resene Astral, Bismark or Blumine. Paint the walls a dove white. Paint the mirror in antique silver and lower it, remove that strip of gold tile above the white and try something else to match the walls or tiles. The taps are lovely, so leave as is and try to match the cabinet handles in a similar style. I'm sorry to say this, but after changing some of the other stuff, the floor needs to be changed to a lighter shade of tile. It's too dark. Good luck. Hope we get to see the finished bathroom.

the easiest way to light any space is look at which way the globes point, and you can see it in the picture you posted. When that fitting is turned on the light hits the ceiling first and washes down from there. What you need is functional lighting whether you make a statement of the light or let the kitchen do the talking is up to you, the best form of task lighting for you in there would be a 3 circuit track system, allowing you to place and point the light where you want it. And being 3 circuit the same track could have 3 different functional light fittings suspended from the 1 power source.

Thanks Margot. I think I've more or less got it sorted. The only challenge remaining, I think, is finding a way to give it a visual lift. It currently has floor to ceiling tiles in a standard size, square, and a very uninteresting colour with no texture - but in very good order. Very dull! I hate grout in showers so I'm thinking maybe some Mr Wetwall panelling or something similar over the tiles in the shower and on the new wall formed by moving the linen cpd, plus on a part wall along the long side of the shower to replace the glass screens that I insist must go (I'm a lazy cleaner and I hate cleaning glass!) Hopefully that would be enough to relieve the dullness of the existing tiles. Then some feature shelving over the new bath tub perhaps. Not yet decided whether to install a freestanding back-to-wall bath or a drop-in, but the latter might provide scope for some more feature tiling or panelling around it. I want to open the room directly to the outdoors but the current window opening is only 1200mm wide and the wall is 8 inches of solid concrete - not easy to cut to enlarge the opening - so I'm looking at either a hinged door with window inset into it or a standard size glass swing door with a narrow window beside for ventilation. My other challenge is doors for the relocated linen cpd, as the existing mirror doors have got to go! I loathe them. As the cpd will be visible from the living area, it needs stylish doors.
