The project manager has been quite lax in making a decision which has not been approved by you. He should discussed any design changes with you and then had it documented and signed off. If the windows are not what you want have them taken out straight away. Do not settle for something you don't want as it will always be a sore point for you. There is no excuse for poor communication!

Well, I guess you first need to think what you really want to use the space for. Will it be your main TV viewing area? (If so, I'd cosy it up with a big rug first). It's a shame to use it as a TV area though, since that means blocking off the sliding doors with furniture. I'm guessing at the moment you don't need as a little kids play area or teenagers homework area - but how about a home office, or even gym/workout area? Or, given, the sliding doors and tiles, how about a conservatory? An indoor herb garden, with some orchids, ferns and maybe even a small palm? Do you have a craft or hobby that could use a dedicated area? I'm thinking artistic types would love to turn the space into a mini studio - or I could let the person with whom I share my life play with his car parts there . . . (tiles! easy to clean up!) Of course, whichever option you choose for the space, I'd keep the cat climbing frame and snuggle-pod!

You can get slim range hoods that generally fit into the wall cabinets ours were approx 40cm deep which housed the complete operation, our plumber ran a 6 or so inch flexable ducting into the roof cavity and out under the eaves. Most brands make these. Look like a great area and project - depending on budget UPVC double glazing - look for German brand - available here from several suppliers. http://deceuninck.com.au/au/pvc-window-systems —- These have really strong thick steel frames and both layers of glass are tempered. The frost is inside so windows are easy to clean. —The huge difference, apart from heat is excellent sound reduction which will be really useful in that room. You could also consider crimsafe screens on the window and the door for added subtle security.
