I really agree with all the folks who have recommended losing the headboard in favour of bolsters and pillows But the best advice of all I attribute to William Faulkner who cautioned writers to "kill your darlings" http://wendypalmer.com.au/2008/09/25/writing-rules-misapplied-kill-your-darlings/. In the context of interior design, I take that to mean that you should mentally strip it down to the bones and start again. I love your window seat/bay window. I love the valance sorta thing. But maybe you should lose them. If those are your darlings, maybe you should kill them and free your mind to think of other possibilities.

Sorry to disagree with some of the comments but most of us want to make changes that don't cost a lot of cash and we can do ourselves, the knotty pine kitchen cabinets can be painted without the knots showing, I have done this with a very large wall unit in my meals area, I lightly sanded the unit then painted it with white tile paint which has a glue incorporated in it, then painted it in cream but your white would cover the same as my cream, it came up an absolute dream and is commented buy every single person that visits our home, so go ahead and paint your cupboards, don't remove the wall cabinets each side of the window, it looks to be a rather large window which you can already see the light coming through, the extra white in your kitchen would add more light, when you paint the wall cupboards also paint the cornice in white (cornice is the feature between the ceiling and your cupboard tops), this will give your kitchen the look of a very high ceiling and never ending cupboards - the tile paint I mentioned is actually for painting over tiles (Bunnings sell it) so you can choose your own colour whether to incorporate the grey of your floor, a darker charcoal grey, or go all the way with white splashbacks and add your pops of colour in the way of a vase of flowers, some large clear glass vases filled with oranges, limes or lemons in them, bowls of fruit etc, the stained glass inserts in the wall are OK but if your really wanted to go all modern and have the cash, they could be changed for clear glass to show off some nice plates, bowls etc, and yes change the handles on the cupboard doors, nice long polished silver would look lovely, you would have to fill in the existing holes in the doors before painting. The bench top looks to be in good condition and would look great with your white cupboards. Good luck and have some fun with your changes.

Bravo to all these amazing creative minds. I hate wasting stuff that still has life in it. By the way, though I have read that some pallets are treated with a fumigant which is toxic. Generally, make sure pallets are stamped with “HT”, which means they haven’t been exposed to chemicals (at least not in the treating process.) Avoid unmarked pallets or those with “MB” for methyl bromide. Hi HU-648755060 A couple of questions for you. Do you have any floorplans or other details as well? A lot of people say Hampton's Style but that in itself can vary greatly between people. What you have picked out so far all sounds pretty good. I would look at a darker stain, like an espresso for the flooring. The darker automatically adds a feeling of understated luxe. I assume you are doing larger architraves, crown mouldings and skirts and these are painted white? Are you doing a grey grout on the splashback? For a more modern/industrial twist, look for a concrete finish to your kitchen benches. Remember that the concrete looks can be rather patterned so look at full slab pictures before choosing. If you go down this path I would keep all of them the same, vanities, laundry benchtops and kitchen benchtops. Otherwise you could look at a dramatic marble look such as Smartsone Blanco Molassa for the island and then a pared back white, for the other benchtops throughout the house. I hope this helps.
