I was very glad to hear that there are people who like the fabric I have chosen for the sofa. Unfortunately there is a long waiting time 6-8 weeks. I would be more than happy to get some help placing the furniture as well as choosing the soft furnishing. The colour I have fell in love is teal but open for any recommendations. Leelee, thank you for your comments. The cabinet in the corner has been bugging me since we moved to the house. I'm so excited getting finally a new look to my livingroom that I wanted to try something different with my current furniture. the cabinet is no longer in the livingroom and I feel so much better. Regarding the painting, it needs to wait until the new furniture has arrived. I will take a photo and post it later. By the way, we are getting a new king size ensemble tomorrow and would like to get some help to refresh the look. Our old mattress has been a queen size, so need to get a new bedhead as well. I'm going to create a new post of it.

annb1997 I do need to keep the glass on the north side because I can't add any more windows and we are trying to get as much light as possible. Thanks for your comments. Oklouise I can't really have any more low storage because on 1 side I've got sliding doors and on the other side I've got a glass wall facing an atrium, can you thing of a better layout? They've bricked the external wall but not the internal wall yet. any extra advise I appreciate loads!

Hi Vim. What are the dimensions of the room? Will this room function solely as a home theatre? If it's a dedicated space for watching movies, etc., I recommend painting the room and ceiling a dark matte colour(s) and install full length drapes in a dark fabric w/pelmet. This is to minimise light and reflection of light in the room and onto the screen, and drapes will also absorb sound, all factors to consider for an optimal theatre experience. I also notice the TV seems to be mounted rather high on the wall; is this comfortable for your neck when sitting and watching for extended periods? Is your speaker system already installed or will you use only the TV speaker? The style and type of seating is partly a matter of what other functions this room has/will have, the number of people you want to accomodate, and dimensions of the room. Personally, I prefer recliners for their individual comfort (ideally upholstered in dark fabric to dampen sound, rather than bounce it around the room). Having said that, leather is more forgiving and easier to clean and you can always have throw rugs on them for additional comfort and for sound-absorption. Recliners are easy to arrange, and can be grouped in pairs, or individually, with side tables between for drinks, snacks, remotes, etc. (non-reflective materials). Alternatively, two recliners and two armchairs w/ottomans, or a sofa and two armchairs. Your flooring is beautiful, and it will bounce sound around the room, so you may want to consider a much larger area rug. I hope I haven't overwhelmed you with suggestions...it's really a matter of how passionate you are about home theatre! Cheers.

Thanks everyone for the helpful advice. I assumed my layout would be similar to that of other Californian Bungalows of the same period. It is helpful to learn my layout is reasonably uncommon and I am probably looking for inspiration in the wrong places. It sounds like Dr Retro House Calls and JRED are correct in steering me towards an interior designer. I hadn’t considered that option as I thought I would need a large budget for furniture and décor if going down that path. I’ll give Bigreader’s suggestion a go first and use scaled cut-outs of furniture to play around with furniture placement. If I still need guidance after that, I will look into interior design services. I initially shared your thoughts – Melt in ACT - and was thinking about turning the laundry space into a large bathroom and then moving the laundry to the small bathroom. Ultimately it was going to be too expensive… and seeing as I have young boys who get every item of clothing they wear dirty within 5 minutes of putting it on, it will be a bit of a luxury to have a big laundry. It's an idea I might revisit in the future though. Oklouise, I love all your ideas and suggestions and am really grateful for the time you’ve taken to respond. The floorplan you’ve put together is super helpful. I was bummed about the lack of space for an entry set down area and would have never thought about moving the bedroom door. I will definitely look into that. Good memory siriuskey- I did previously post about this house and I received a couple of good suggestions (including advice from you) around maximising kitchen bench space with a kitchen island and adding a storage wall near the small living spaces. I felt the advice sought in this post is sufficiently different to justify asking a new question about whether there are resources I may not be aware of and if people have ideas about the floor plan as a whole, including spaces I had not previously asked about. I’ve got lots of new ideas and really appreciate everyone taking the time to share their advice. This is a great forum/ community!
