Dining room styling help
Comments (39)That looks so much better. Definitely make chair covers for the rest. I've used aqua accessories in my room- a throw, some coasters and a leaf shaped bowl for the table which has a silver outside. You can always change the accessories with the seasons (I have a red throw for Christmas time) . I'm also having a dilemma with a large window. Initially I'd wanted plantation shutters in white to replace the dark red cedar venetians which made the room gloomy, but I'm now thinking of softening with semi-sheer curtains. It is only partially overlooked in one corner and the rest looks out onto a wall that is less than 1 metre away....See MoreStriped sofa styling
Comments (9)Stunning sofas and look extremely comfortable! Perhaps replace 2 scatter cushions on each with a charcoal linen-look fabric that picks up the colour on either side of the wide stripe, or to keep the look fresh and Hamptons inspired, a soft beige linen fabric, with an alternate piping colour that ties in a colour from the sofa. We custom make cushions & furniture in any size, in any fabric. Feel welcome to visit our site or call for more details. www.strictlycomfort.com Also to soften the overall look, a very 'in vogue' option this winter is a luxurious Himalayan Goat hide throw... Comments (10)You have an awkward space to furnish as it is long and skinny, with some of the width needed for circulation and the opening of the linen cupboard doors. I would start by working out where the TV is going, and I think that there are only two logical spots: either against the bathroom wall, or under the air conditioner. Once you have decided the TV location I would measure up some couches and cut out the shapes to the same scale as your floorplan - as moving bits of paper around on a floorplan is easier than moving furniture in real life. I don't think that an L-shaped arrangement like you have in the photo will give you much flexibility, and will visually divide up the space. I might start by looking at a compact 2 or 2.5 seater couch, and a couple of compact armchairs. Don't look at any furniture that is overscaled for the room (think apartment living rather than mansion living). Lounge furniture with legs (such as in your photo) looks visually lighter so should be on your shopping list. Comments (12)I actually think the rug you have is a great start , but I actually think you need to look at the bigger picture , and formulate a plan . The end of the kitchen bench looks beige . Beige , of course , is bad haha , and doesn't go with grey . And you have a lot of grey ! Grey kitchen cupboards , grey walls , grey ceilings , grey doors and windows , and in the styled pics -- grey furniture . Call it surfmist , or drab , or overcast , or any of the other 50 shades haha , and its still grey . And to really add to this scene are those 70's tiles . The veranda roof underside looks unpainted or beige , the fence is an off-white . Me -- I'd do the ceiling in white . Just so it isn't grey . The kitchen end , and the cupboard doors -- burnt orange would suit , royal blue maybe , or the bright ornage/yellow or red if you want colour , but I sense thats a No . The outside fence in charcoal , the underside of the terrace roof probably charcoal too , but I'd want to know the rest of the outside colours -- lets hope they aren't grey haha ! THEN you can do the white marble table , the gold legged chairs , obviously the rug , you'd even get away with the grey couches , BUT add some coloured cushions , maybe some light blue and some royal blue to reference the rug . Maybe mid and rich red to reference the kitchen . Even the charcoal might work but it needs something -- a bright lamp , at least 1 large abstract art work in the tones you want -- the reds and/or the blues and/or the yellows -- several colours , and several shades of your dominant two . Doing it now will cost $5-10k , but it will look much more integrated , it will be done , and easier than in a year too haha ! Delay if budget is tight , but I'd personally sooner do that and have a $100 dining table with a $30 tablecloth for the 1st year or 2 , than a $2k or $5k marble and gold one ....See Morejulie herbert
