annb1997 I do need to keep the glass on the north side because I can't add any more windows and we are trying to get as much light as possible. Thanks for your comments. Oklouise I can't really have any more low storage because on 1 side I've got sliding doors and on the other side I've got a glass wall facing an atrium, can you thing of a better layout? They've bricked the external wall but not the internal wall yet. any extra advise I appreciate loads!

With those walls jutting out that way, it may prove restrictive, pending the size of the bed. Presumably a queen if it's a master with WIR/ensuite? Something like this? Might pay to grab your measuring tape and mark out your bed in position on the floor to give you a better idea of where the sides of the bed are in relation to the protruding walls. I think some beautiful curtains behind your bed that are hung higher than the existing window, extending to just inside, each side of the walls, and that touch the floor, could make a real feature behind your bed. A dresser on the wall against the ensuite/WIR with a mirror or some nice artwork above it with some candles, books and a fresh flowers could look really good too. A medium/large sized etched piece of brass/copper with a nice quote or some wall collage type of styling on the protruding part of the wall (on the right hand side of the bed/first wall you see as you walk into the room) might look good too?

Dear Julie, is this a hypothetical or existing space? Here are some tips to help you design the space you want. When drawing a design it is important to list the overall size dimensions of the room and draw your plans to scale. This will give you a better idea of the placement of furniture, doors and windows within the room and space left to walk around them. I would suggest re-drawing your sketches with a scale ruler before deciding on an option. Using a 'Pocket door' built into to wall will also help maximise the space that you have, as no door swing (where the door goes when open) enters the room or obstructs any furniture. Another great idea, to hide the TV as this can be overpowering in a small sized room is to have shelving built with doors than can slide across to hide the TV when unwanted. Either option will work however, Option 1 is best, you will have more need a cupboard than chair. Option 2 (is used) needs to be flipped with the bed on the opposite wall for better flow as other members have indicated. Best of Luck!

Thanks everyone for the helpful advice. I assumed my layout would be similar to that of other Californian Bungalows of the same period. It is helpful to learn my layout is reasonably uncommon and I am probably looking for inspiration in the wrong places. It sounds like Dr Retro House Calls and JRED are correct in steering me towards an interior designer. I hadn’t considered that option as I thought I would need a large budget for furniture and décor if going down that path. I’ll give Bigreader’s suggestion a go first and use scaled cut-outs of furniture to play around with furniture placement. If I still need guidance after that, I will look into interior design services. I initially shared your thoughts – Melt in ACT - and was thinking about turning the laundry space into a large bathroom and then moving the laundry to the small bathroom. Ultimately it was going to be too expensive… and seeing as I have young boys who get every item of clothing they wear dirty within 5 minutes of putting it on, it will be a bit of a luxury to have a big laundry. It's an idea I might revisit in the future though. Oklouise, I love all your ideas and suggestions and am really grateful for the time you’ve taken to respond. The floorplan you’ve put together is super helpful. I was bummed about the lack of space for an entry set down area and would have never thought about moving the bedroom door. I will definitely look into that. Good memory siriuskey- I did previously post about this house and I received a couple of good suggestions (including advice from you) around maximising kitchen bench space with a kitchen island and adding a storage wall near the small living spaces. I felt the advice sought in this post is sufficiently different to justify asking a new question about whether there are resources I may not be aware of and if people have ideas about the floor plan as a whole, including spaces I had not previously asked about. I’ve got lots of new ideas and really appreciate everyone taking the time to share their advice. This is a great forum/ community!
